At least you don't have to wait a week for the next episode. And you'll be caught up by the time season two rolls around.

The one about the Demon Loving His Elf Bride (not where I can look at the actual title at the moment) turned out to be a pretty nice show. The action segments left a lot to be desired, but the story is really about the two main characters getting on. It's sweet if a little cornball. I had it pegged from the first ep as a skeevy show, and it most definitely did not turn out that way.

Hajime no Ippopotamus is on Netflix in my area. I've never watched it. Worth a look? I've heard good things over the years.

Same here.  I just checked it out on a lark because I was bored and lot of shows didn't interest me this season and I was surprised with it. It's still kinda mid but in a pleasant way. And, yeah, the action is just meh. I could do without the false tension.

I love that show. The sequels leave something to be desired so you can totally skip them. I think Canadian Netflix only has the first season anyway.

I assumed Hajime no Ippo was an add-on for Canadian Netflix from Joe's post but it's on US Netflix, too. That's kinda cool, I guess. Netflix has the Spanish dub available, too, which is a good dub. Seen this entire show multiple times in Japanese, English, and Spanish so it's whatever but nice to have it available to more of an audience.

Weirdly enough, I first tried to watch this show through Netflix years and years ago. As in DVD Netflix. But the damn discs kept getting stolen/disappearing and this isn't a show you could just skip a whole DVD on. So it's sort of come full circle in a way.

Suicide Squad Isekai is all right. If anything, I like it not because of the DC characters but because it's a different sort of anime among a lot of samey-samey shit. Don't like the dub though. I'm surprised we didn't get common DC voice actors and instead it seems Warners went the cheap-o route with the dub. But, whatever, I'm watching the sub.

And as much as I love Yatagarasu, these last couple of episodes dropped the ball a bit on presentation. This show supposedly has 20 episodes and it's like someone suddenly remembered the episode count and is rushing through the story. I think they should've just stretched out the singular story of the kin'u choosing his consort amongst all 20 episodes. Apparently, for, like, seven episodes out of the 20, it delves into a different story with man-eating apes or some wacky shit. But in the process a lot of context got cut out of the first story. So watching this with Merla, she could follow along but several neat little details got omitted and I had to fill her in on them. Which is a shame.

Glad you brought up SSI -- I didn't even realize it was out. Didn't turn up at my usual spot, so I'm guessing they're afraid of WB lawyers.

Yeah, that's where I ended up grabbing it. Nyaa typically has everything that's absent elsewhere. I wonder if my place doesn't have Suicide Squad because it's streaming on Hulu. They never post Netflix stuff there, either.

I watched the first episode last night. Nicely animated. Not sure about the premise yet, but I'll give it a chance.

I just loathe isekai so much.

First episode of Elusive Samurai was quite good. I remember trying out the manga way back when and dropping it immediately. And not feeling the least bit guilty about it either, as it was clearly destined for cancelation.

Now it's like 160 chapters deep.

Although, that's not always necessarily a sign of quality. I think Undead Unluck absolutely fucking sucks ass, for instance.

Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan is kind of funny, but the production is a little ramshackle.

That new Kinnikuman is on Netflix. First episode is pretty much just a newly animated series recap, with the characters musing over their past adventures, and framed that way it's honestly fucking hysterical. Seems like a perfect way to onboard prospective neophytes.

Undead Unluck is a show that managed to interest me enough to watch a clip here and there but at the same time completely dissuades me from watching the actual show.

Behold, new Ranma 1/2. Original Japanese cast for most of the main roles, too.

Not sure if I'll actually watch this but it looks new and shiny, I guess.

"Man becomes woman" seems to be pretty popular these days, might as well cash in. :aroused:

And all that footage looks really nice, I can't deny.

How was Urusei Yatsura? Did you stick with it?

Nah. I liked the look of it, the songs, and some of the jokes amused me. Mendo a GOAT.  But cast member bloat drowns him out, the show comes off very dated, and for every joke that landed, five or six of them fell flat. I didn't make it to the end of the first cour.

That does indeed look nice. It immediately reminded me of something else, though.

This:

Or are you the one who showed me that one, too? I can't recall.

It looks Ghibli-derivative in my opinion. Like someone's made a Ghibli fanwork. I don't mind it but that's where my thoughts went when I saw the trailer.

Quote

Nope, wasn't me. I think when I saw the trailer on my feed, I didn't watch it let alone share it. Seeing it now, it looks kinda neat. Although I don't trust it to not go on a samey-samey path. I want to be proven wrong tho'.

I'm not watching much right now. I've tried watching Dahlia in Bloom and I feel like things happen without happening. I'm not sure how to explain it. Nothing feels truly happy or sad and I'm rather bored.  She gets cheated on and she's MEH.  Can you either be sad you were betrayed or happy that you're free now? It's so frustrating. And I hate the way this show draws "older" characters. They just look like doughier versions as the younger characters with extra wrinkles. This is not the only show to do this by a mile but it's just a peeve of mine. It's so lazy. If I can make your character as young as their kids with a few swipes in MS Paint, you have a lazy old person design. In this show's defense, these dudes were probably young dads given this is a pretty generic fantasy world but I just hate it design-wise.

The truly odd thing about my anime watching is that, I've been pulling stuff at a record high-speed pace (damn these fabulous fiber innerwebs) and watching it at a record low-speed pace.

I find that if I don't make a strict point of watching stuff, it'll just never get watched and inevitably end up deleted.

I'm staying up to date on new stuff as it comes out, and I also watch something from the backlog each and every night of the week. Eventually I'll be caught up. I can finally see the finish line.

But most importantly of all, if something isn't holding my interest, it's done. I dropkicked Suicide Squad the other night, for example.

Dude! Why is it so boring?! After episode four or so, it's like a chore watching it now. Maybe I'll binge through it when it's done so I can see what happens with the princess. Maybe more people needed to be suicided?

Funny thing is, I wind up binging a lot of stuff after it's been either batched after the season or released on blu-ray with a dub. Plus I read a lot more manga and light novels than before.

That's probably for the best.  Sucks having to wait a week with no Yatagarasu, get an episode ending on a cliffhanger, and then have to wait another three-ass weeks because the it's on hiatus due to the Olympics.

I have no use for bullseye shooting, especially with pellet guns. None of it is practical...now, if USPSA or IDPA somehow ever became an Olympic event I'd have to reevaluate the situation.

I don't hate the Olympics but I hate how--instead of the events being readily available and accessible for everyone to enjoy--that evil Peacock gatekeeps everything and provides the shittiest coverage ever. I remember being in my late teens or early twenties and watching events until the wee hours of the morning and then getting up early to watch the next round of events. It's just no fun anymore. Another casualty of morons with internet access.

In regards to anime, I finally just gave up on Dahlia in Bloom. It seemed like something I should've liked and I wanted to like it but it's so milquetoast. There's no stakes. Dead Daddy's friends just fix all of this girl's problems and it's all so bland. I didn't think there were worse things than an Mary Sue. But a Mary Sue who solves her own damn problems--even if it's with unearned abilities or powers--is still miles above this chick doing fuck-all.

Kimi ni Todoke's new episodes finally came out and, man, that first episode is fucking boring. The first season is great but I think everything after is just not as great. Maybe I'll give the next episode a shot before giving up on it.

True Beauty came out. I think I posted this clip before but I'm too lazy to chell. The chick's voice is ear cancer but the show's first episode was amusing enough. At least the plot is actually going somewhere. Whether or not it will keep this pace is something else.

Right now, just looking out for fall. This summer completely sucked.

This seems like it could be sort of cute... or not.

I liked Gun Gale but it's been years. I don't remember a damn thing about it.

At least I remember this one better.

No idea if I'll actually stick with it. Honestly, I was bored by the end of the first season and getting sick of dumb bunny going desuwa desuwa desuwa.

I hope this one's as good as the trailers make it look.

I was wondering why one site I go to was saying it had Ranma 1/2 episodes for the new show. Holy shit. That's terrible. For the people making this, I mean. I'm checking out the Ranma ones right now.

Blazed through all 12 episodes. I'm assuming it's a first cour or whatever. It's all rather rote. The OG Ranma 1/2 show does all of this better. The characters are off-model, the music is inferior, and some of the animation choices are weird. Like the fight scenes getting purple tinge or whatever. At least what I saw of Urusei Yatsura had good music and parts of the show that made me laugh.

Assuming this show does what Urusei Yatsura set out to do, there will be point where this show probably becomes the better adaptation since Ranma 1/2 has a shit load of filler and OVAs. But this first cour or whatever can be completely skipped to rewatch the old one.

Watched what was available of Dan Da Dan and it's pretty good. I wasn't sure if I was going to like this or not, especially when granny appeared wanting dicks or whatever. But it's pretty damn good, flashy, and engaging with flawed interesting characters. It's a great palate cleanser for "Retread 1/2", I mean, "Redundant 1/2", I mean "Kasumi-is-adorable-and-you-shitters-couldn't-do-her-justice-and-also-why-does-Kuno-have-monstera-leaf-hair 1/2".
