I haven't picked up any Fall anime yet. Nothing really stands out to me.

Rewatching Akagi, I'm gonna revise what I said about the second half. The first half is still superior and I'm bummed the second half doesn't live up to that, however, the second half is more of a 7 out of 10 than the 4/5 out of 10 I initially gave it. You have to go into the second half knowing the author dragged this shit out to the point where the anime was incapable of finishing it. But seeing this villain cackle and call upon fuckin' demons and then throw a tantrum when he loses round after round to Akagi is still entertaining in its own way. I wish there was a club or group playing Japanese mahjong so I could learn the game and try this shit out. I'm playing this World of Final Fantasy game, and most of the cinematic bits are done as anime, which is odd because modern Square is typically known for their lavish CG. And it's pretty bad, too, like your typical half-hearted TV budget anime. It really stands out poorly in an otherwise solid product.

I watched The Boy and the Beast on Netflix the other night. I was totally on board until the final act, and then it just kind of jumped off a cliff. The entire movie was mostly pretty grounded, and then they decided to top it off with an epic battle scene that I thought felt completely out of place. Left a bad taste, and I can't really recommend it now.

Still watching JoJo. I'm especially enjoying these later episodes now that they're actively seeking the main villain.

I was all "this is on Netflix! Oh, wait, Canada." I started watching that a month or so ago and my copy started futzing up past the half mark. By that time, I just lost interest. I let it play in the background with the out-of-sync sound and all and never cared to see it synced up. The last battle didn't feel epic at all. It was like it wanted to be epic but didn't earn the epic-feels and just seemed hollow. Epic would've been the boy having to fight his mentor or the god-guy or whoever. Not that rando "muh daddy's a pig and i's a pig, too" or whatever.

I'd prefer that LWA weren't a reboot/retell but I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. Still kinda disappointing tho'.

Also making note of Scum's Wish. Not posting the teaser because it's one of those shitty "a bunch of text and a still image that gets panned over" things, but I wanna look into it when it comes out.

I was gonna say that I thought Trigger was formed before Panty and Stocking but after le Googled, nope, it was after. [I also realized I was mixing up P&S w/ Kill la Kill for some inane reason, that's why I thought it was a Trigger show.] Anyway, yeah, it appears some of the peeps that worked on P&S left for Trigger. I'll still be optimistic... but only because I never imagine I'll be entertained by sequels anyway so I already had ♫ lowered expectations ♫

Right now I started Kiss Him, Not Me. I didn't realize it was actually ongoing or I might've waited, but I saw the first episode and got hooked. Chubby, awkward high school fujoshi loses weight suddenly and gets hot so now all the hot dudes she wanted to see make out with each other are gunning for her. Funi's already pumping out a dub, too.

Second episode in and the only real issue is that I can see the MC's fujoshi tendencies kinda being shoved aside a bit already. Whenever the show hits parts with her being an awkward shit tho', it's hilarious. Unfortunately, it lingers a bit too much on "lookit, innit she hot and popular and all these boys want her. even if she's weird, right? i mean, she's hot now." Also, like, she was only sick for a week, show. How did that also make her face all cute? Oh well, it's okay so far.

But, just came back from great Nihon and Rose of Versailles has become a bit popular again because of its 40 year anniversary, so I got a lot of merch :3 Also got the complete series on dvd delivered from the US and I found they were selling the original manga here, but had to pay $$$ for it

Its only like 40 eps or so. Worth it imo. The ending is 10/10.

Has any of you watched that new anime movie that is destroying all the Ghibli films $$$ records in Japan? "Your Name"? I really want to watch it but first have to find a good stream

I'm downloading Escaflowne in HD. I bought the DVD box set years ago, but I'm not blowing a wad of dough on the new set... I'm done with enabling all the double dipping. I'm above my old collectivist mentality of retaining box sets. Unless they're legitimately great things, like my Casablanca and Ben-Hur Blu-ray boxes. No, these days, everything goes on Plex where I can get to it on every monitor and device I own without having to hunt for it.

What's killing me about the market is that I'm completely for buying products but...

1 - It has to be something I KNOW I'll enjoy. No spending money on an unproven product. You can't put a handful of episodes online and expect me to buy the rest of it. I need to have seen it and loved it.
2 - Discs are cumbersome and purchased digital media always has some DRM bullshit tied to it. No, I don't want Ultraviolet or Silverlight or whatever.
3 - Half the shit I'm interested in buying is not being sold anyway.
4 - I live in a small house. It's not worth it to collect everything I watch on sold physical media these days.

I wish I could just pay for high quality MP4s like I do with MP3s. That'll be the day.

Regarding physical media and space, I finally got over the desire to keep the packaging...so once I threw out the cases and stuck the discs into folders, I got a whole corner of my bedroom back.
