I tried to continue Pretear, something I had seen one ep of years ago on a sampler disc. I also tried Pandora Hearts.
In Pandora Hearts, we're not four minutes in (if you don't deduct the 90 seconds for the OP and 20 seconds for the beginning to serenely introduce us to a countryside amid flutes) before some lady is already doing that whole screamy BAKA-NANI overdramatic bullshit that's supposed to be funny. I realize a lot of animes do that, but hell, lady, I don't even know you and you're already screaming at me? It was really annoying because it started out so lovely and cute with the scenic views and the young siblings hiding in a wardrobe and next thing you know a woman's screaming at you and you just want to smack the shit out of her. "R U AFRAID OF NEKO, I THINK YOU ARE, DESU!" Blah, seriously? It really rubbed me the wrong way. As I started scanning through the episode, it lost my interest. The premise and some of the characters looked good, but then I'd see a stupid grin or hear a sentence that made it either feel like a rehash of something else and an adaptation of a bad fanfiction.
As for Pretear, it shared a similar problem. I swear I could quote Pretear's dialogue and describe the characters and everyone here would have a different guess as to where it came from. I remember the first episode being decent, too, but I just couldn't sit through this for longer than five minutes. It's pretty much these mostly androgynous dudes and a couple of "cute" children need this high school chick to help them save the world. The girl was practically useless in battle and they're all "DOMO ARIGATO KNEW U COULD DO IT DESU! ALWAYS BELIEVED IN U DESU!" Well, except for the one cranky one, but there's always one of those. "WAT-EVA DESU." The "heroine" didn't even do anything but go all "WAAAAAI!! WHAT IZ I DOIN DESU! GOMENASAI!" and they're all praising her. BLEH. PASS.
