What to Call Certain Things In America.
« on: Jul 09, 2006, 09:05:44 PM »
Things I'm tired of people saying, when in America.

1.) Cigarette =  A Cigarette is a Cig, Ciggie, Smoke, or Cancer Stick. NOT A FAG. As amusing as it is to hear someone say they're going to go smoke a fag, in America, you don't call it a fag. We reserve that name for certain zealous people in San Francisco That constantly CLOG THE TRAFFIC WITH PARADES. GET OVER IT.

2.) Football -  In America, Football is a game involving quarterbacks, helmets, hot dogs, and pretty cheerleaders. Football is not Soccer. Soccer is called Soccer in America because it involves shorts, and little to no tackles. GET OVER IT.

3.) Comics -  Not ALL COMICS ARE MANGA. A Comic is something involving superheroes/villians/etc, usually involving Women who's body parts defy physics and Men who make Mr. Universe look flabby. A Manga is a japanese importation involving characters that are or LOOK like their underage teenagers. It's an ART STYLE THING, GET OVER IT.

4.) Cartoons - NOT ALL CARTOONS ARE ANIME. Sure, these day's about 85% of your animated viewings are of Japanese importation, but If you bother to pay attention, people, there's a stark difference between 'CARTOONS' and 'ANIME'. Garfield, Darkwing Duck, And Looney Tunes? Cartoons.
Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Mew Mew Power CRAP? ANIME. GET OVER IT.

...Anyone got anything else?

I don't want it to be easy, I want it to be right.

That anime shit pisses me off. People are like "Well Teen Titans is anime 'cause it's drawn like anime" WTF? It's not Japanese so it's not anime. Idiots.

And I love to refer to smoking as "smoking a fag" but I do that only because it sounds like sucking cock.

I know many people who call anime cartoons and vice versa. Now threatening to stab them with a serrated knife... >.>

I think I got one:

Speaking Amercian - We speak ENGLISH and yet there are Americans who say this. It's not that hard to remember that we speak English and our nationality is American. GET IT RIGHT! >.<

And when people ask "You came over here to just to make out with me? That's adorable."  It doesn't have to mean "What?! You're not gonna have sex with me?" Sometimes it means "That's so cute you came over to get a kiss"...even though it fucking soudns like the latter...god damn it...

(and I found Teen Titans quite entertaining, most of the time)

I only reiterate because I tried actually watching it this past Sat. morning and halfway through I felt things in my head dying.

As far as the cartoons vs anime vs comics vs manga is concerned, I used to get a stick in my ass about it, but I'm at the point now where it's all cartoons and it's all comics.

TT had good ratings, but was cancelled along with JLU because CN wants to promote their own shit.

There's so much shit on CN it's just not funny.  JLU was treated craptacularly, and so were the Ninja Turtles.  I used to have my tv on Toonami all Saturday night, and now I don't even linger around when I'm flipping channels.

I'd actually prefer if they didn't show anime on Adult Swim. I mean, we can all watch anime whenever the hell we want, am I right? Some of you don't even want to watch it in the first place. Like tonight I watched a couple episodes of Robot Chicken, which were all right, then I'm wondering what's on next. Inuyasha. Fuck right off.

And to be honest, some of CN's new stuff isn't all that bad. I've watched Camp Lazlo and My Gym Partner's A Monkey a few times, and they were actually pretty funny. I mean, I don't go out of my way to catch either of them, but if I'm looking to kill time they're both perfectly viable options.

Oh, and I want more Korgoth.

I half agree with you on this. I don't mind anime on Adult Swim, but I don't like it when they mix it in with the funny. I'd like it better if the rest of the week was broken up like the weekend are. With some nights being anime, others being comedy. I just don't like after sitting down and watching an hour and half of funny to then get slapped with Inuyasha. Course I could just be bias as I've never thought much of that show. I guess I'd just like to see the funny on Mon, Wed, and Fri. The action on Tuesday and Thursday...and the weekends stay the same.

I'd like them to remove all anime. I just stopped caring about it.

I only follow manga anymore, and even then that's only four titles.

Don't forget all the hentai doujinshi you plow through.

Why'd you give up on anime, dude? ComicQuiz eating up all your free time?

I wasn't impressed with Lazlo at all.  Nor Korgoth.  I think removing all the anime is extreme, but I think they need to limit it.  Like on Sat.  Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo, Naruto, One Piece, Pokemon, Zatch Bell, IGPX (it counts).... then Inuyasha, FMA, Eureka 7, GitS, Champloo and whatever else AS pulls out of its moldy colon?  It's too damn much.  Where the hell are the action originals?  Sat. is the perfect night for CN to rotate every action show in their library, not scrounge around for cheap imports.

I watched IGPX back when it was airing on Japanese TV, and only recently caught the final two episodes which were DVD exclusives and never broadcast (The fuck is that?), and I actually thought it was pretty solid. Haven't really watched the dub. Same with Eureka, but that one probably shouldn't have ran as long as it did. Really nice, consistent animation throughout, but then right in the final quarter you could tell their budget or whatever had been seriously compromised. Still, pretty good overall.

I am a man of simple tastes.

Sometimes I get the feeling that people are turned off certain series just because they're airing on Cartoon Network. Like, it degrades them somehow. I'm not saying that's what happened with you, but some people give me that impression.

A lot of what has turned me off of series is the fact that people act like some of these shows are the best thing since sliced bread, and when I finally get to see them they always fall well short of the hype.
