There was a moment I started hating Kingdom Hearts 2.

It might have been when they started playing that damn commercial with the magical emo music. "My sanctuary... sanctuary..." GAH!

More than likely though, it was at EBgames the day before release, when two ugly ass pimply nerd girls walked in and whined to the clerk that they wanted the game a day early because they preordered it, and for some god damn reason, they had special privilege to get the game before everyone else. They tried to explain their right to have the game early by telling him that they were the biggest KH fans in the universe, that they played the first game a billion times, that they worshipped KH, wrote X-rated yaoi KH fan fiction, had sexual dreams about Sora and the other male bishies in the game...

It was about that time I wanted to stab them both in the back with a giant sharpened key. I'm not sure if it was because of the mention of the fanfiction or the KH wet dreams.

In reality, the first KH game would have never been as popular as it was had it been published by some other, more obscure company besides Square. Had another company come out with it, most people would have said "Oh, another shitty Disney game. Guess they're desparate for money." But because the game was made by Square, every person out there that sucks Square's fat cock just had to play it, and it became instantly popular. The second game's just riding on that popularity. Had KH not been made by Square, it wouldn't have had a sequel.

I was amused by KIngdom Hearts Especially making them Gummi Ships.. I won't be getting Kingdom Hearts 2 (Seriously people, how hard is it just to write it out?) until it hits the 20 bin Next January.

"Another shitty Disney game" makes me think back to all the great 16-bit Disney adventures....

From the standpoint that Kingdom Hearts (which I've admittedly never played) is said to integrate large doses of Square intellectual properties, play like Square games, and benefit from the company's expertise, I'd say it wouldn't be nearly the same game had it not been developed by Square. What you're saying might have some semblance of merit if we were comparing it to a Capcom and Warner Brothers team-up merging Breath of Fire and Looney Tunes. Yeah, you have those great characters, but what would the system be? What would Capcom bring to the table? Square has a lot to offer, and I don't know that anyone else could have made it succeed.

Dragon Quest 8: 60 hours well spent and I'm only about 3/4ths of the way through.
