A Massachusetts-born Texan, who liked to quote "Don't mess with Texas," the 18-year-old was going to represent the Lone Star State at the Miss Deaf America Pageant in Palm Desert, California, this July.

It was one of many pageants McAvoy had entered, "both in the hearing community and in the deaf community," said Claire Bugen, superintendent of the Texas School for the Deaf, on Wednesday. McAvoy was a 2005 graduate of the school, where she played sports and acted in theater.

"She was a beautiful, bright, young deaf woman," said Bugen.

Not that fuckin bright if she was walking ON TRAIN TRACKS WHEN SHE COULDN'T HEAR THE TRAIN!

I am glad she's no longer in the genepool.

Oh I know, however this article was so good, it deserved it's own thread. This is more to ask why a deaf person would be walking on train tracks.

Those Australian kids are the ones that deserved their own thread. That train squished them so much, they needed DNA testing to identify the remains.

Anyway, all semantics aside, she probably walked that way because it was open and not a lot of stuff going on that she'd have to hear to get away from like on a regular, road-side sidewalk. Well, aside from the occasional train. If you do the figures, it might be that the probability of being hit by a train is likely to be lower than a deaf person being hit by a car.

Still, I see it as a shame for anyone to go like that.
