...that is to say that for the first time ever, I have yelled at someone in the theater.  That bitch was having a fucking conversation on her damn phone during the movie.  Oh HELLLLLL no.  For fuck's sake!  I *hate* being confrontational, especially with strangers.  I always expect the worst from people (like them pulling out a gun or knife or something), so when I actually get pissed off at a stranger, you know I'm ready to throw down.   It felt surprisingly good after I did it though.  Her only response was to tell me to "calm down" twice like a stupid fucking cow.  I was perfectly calm before you decided to be a thoughtless asshole, bitch.

Anyway, uh.... good movie.  Only paid a buck to see it, too, but it sadly reiterates why I hate going to the movies to begin with.

I've been an advocate of jamming cell phones in theaters ever since they started becoming ubiquitous.  Many theaters apparently are, too, but it's currently illegal and the cell phone companies are lobbying to keep it that way.  Fuckers.

New theaters need to build Faraday cages in the structure of their cinemas.  I would think sheets or meshes of copper shielding in the walls would go a long way in stopping cell phone use in a theater, or at least make reception so shitty that they'd leave to make or answer a call.

Or we could clone Nuri to go around and verbally abuse all the inconsiderate bastards who do this kind of crap.
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Nuri is also very scary.  I didn't hear the lady on the phone so I was shocked when I heard Nuri  yelling.  I told Nuri to let it go.  I then decided to change seats and sit on the other side of my sister (which was also next to the lady's young daughter)  because I feared Nuri may attack the lady if further provoked.  I did not want that cow to hit my sister either, I rather she hit me instead.  I noticed the lady kept grabbing on to her daughter and holding her daughter like I might attack her or something.  Oh please. If she was so fearful for her daugther she should have traded seats with her.

I carry a pager for work and always set it on vibrate. If there was signal blocking in a theatre I would pretty much not be capable of sitting through a full movie since I would not be able to respond within the amount of time specified in my contract.

I thought about it for a second and you're the only person I know on the INTERNET or otherwise that still has a pager, which I think is cool in a retro way.  But yeah I don't think it's fair for the theatres to block cell phones.  Why don't they just man up and hire people to bounce offenders?

Why? because they want to provide you with a quality service but they also want the money of the jackasses who disturb you.   These theatre company fucks need to take the hit and enforce their rules.

Go to a theater in a part of town where parents don't want to take their kids? I go to one that's right in the middle of the city's major pub district, which is right in the middle of downtown. It's actually really nice, and the fact that there are little buttons on the seat to call wait staff to come and give you food or something means that the second someone picks up you can push the little button and have the asshole reprimanded for being an asshole.

edit: I wouldn't want to bring anyone food but I wouldn't mind making beer money as the guy that gets called in to tell people to shut up.

Same guy, though I've made it a point to tip them for reprimanding assholes because it's not really part of their job and assholes on cellphones can be pretty mean.

As a support function a pager is more convenient than a phone. If it goes off say, in the milddle of a theatre, I dont' need to answer it. I just note the page, take the time to get out and find a phone and return the call. Far more convenient for me.  I don't need to stumble around for the remote to mute the pr0n before picking up the phone like I always end up doing when someone's calling me for ongoing work stuff at late hours.

Tipped for doing that? That's great.  I would make a point of owning the guy you wanted off the cellphone in an embarassing (yet professional) manner to get a better tip.

I know a girl who used to go out of her way to drive to a specific theatre that was no serviced by any public transportation system (buses around here) and therefore was completely devoid of "punk teenagers". I'm far too lazy to drive that far though and have never worried about getting jacked up in Ottawa.

I got to a theater almost 20 miles out of my way just so I don't have to deal with the tourist that come down to shop at "The largest outlet mall in Missouri." ugh!

I don't think they should block cell phones, because if they do, when that rare time comes when a bunch of crazed gunmen are running around the theater like a bad 80s style action movie, you're going to be wishing that cell phone works. Or if your aunt beatrice has another heart attack.

Had it been me though, I would have been in jail again and gladly this time, because I tried to strangle the bitch.
I like to go down to the playground and watch the kids run and jump and scream, because they don't know I'm only using blanks.

Modern anime is a stagnant cesspool of regurgitated ideas.

I was reminded of this today when I heard my mom whispering and asked what she was saying, and she couldn't believe I could hear her.  I don't believe my hearing is very good.  I like to blast loud music in my ears and I think I have to ask people to repeat themselves more than what I feel is the norm.  After having people snarl at me for the third or fourth time, I've decided it's probably best to just mime an appropriate reaction and let the mystery remain.  But I think it improves itself when I hear something that bothers me (whispering, my name being said in conversation, a muttered insult, a sad attempt at "quiet" sex, hip-hop/rap/christmas music), like an angry, bitchy Daredevil.

Revived thread to say I finally saw this movie.

Not quite as good as LOTR, but good enough. And since they closely followed the books, that automatically makes it even better.
