New Battlestar Galactica: Miniseries/Movie
After not having cable because my mother won't buy it, and I'm too poor for the $50(0000000000) a month bill, I have not seen the new Battlestar and have been clueless when you guys talk about it.
No more. I was able to rent the movie, but no movie place has the TV series. The DVDs came on two double-sided disks. The disk menus said "Turn over for bonus features," but neither disk worked on the other side.
Now, I rather liked the movie.. however, I had two issues with it.
First off, the movie tended to drag a little too much, even for something that was a little over 3 hours long. It had rather boring moments with heavy drama or character crap, with little action in-between. For a sci-fi movie the whole thing sure felt too much like a soap opera.
The bigger problem I had, though, was about the vehicle design. I loved the fact that everything looked realistic and modern. The Cylon ships were all new. The Cylons themself looked dangerous. Galactica had the same basic shape but a more agressive look to it. However, out of all those changes, the Vipers, for some fucking bizzare reason, looked EXACTLY like they did in the first series. You would think if they changed every single other fucking spacecraft that they'd change the vipers, but they still look like shitty little air show stunt craft. Even the launch tube looks like a duplicate from the old show. I expected all the people flying the new vipers to be still wearing Egyptian helmets.
