Kinda sucky birthday though, I asked for some electronics and DVDs and got clothing as usual. That's family for ya. My mother bought me an alarm clock even though she got me an alarm clock last year... and the year before.... and the year before. Told her to send it back but she refuses. Maybe I should auction all these alarm clocks off on Ebay.

That was a good one DS, had me laughing. Anyhow, Happy Un-birthday to you, Doug.
Perhaps people here failed to wish you a happy birthday because they were uncomfortable. When all someone does is complain it creates a negative and sometimes hostile atmosphere. Maybe some people here thought you wouldn’t be celebrating and didn’t want to be wished happy birthday. As for the alarm clock I have to wonder if your mother is trying to tell you that your punctuality needs work. Are you constantly running late everywhere and never on time? Just a thought. Yes and do be grateful that you are not in jail or worse someone’s slave (12.3 million people are enslaved worldwide (BBC News)).

I don't know, the distinction wasn't made.

According to a 2001 NewsMax.com Wires article the number of women and children in the sex-trade is estimated to be around 2 million (80% are under 24yrs). Of course there is no real way of knowing the actual number. Around 30,000 die every year due to abuse. That earlier estimate of 12.3 millions slaves maybe on the low side. While I was looking for these stats I came across some as high as 27 million (New Zeland news).
