You know you're from....
« on: Aug 31, 2004, 03:35:37 PM »
How to play:
1. Go on to Google and type in the name of your state/city/county/neighborhood.
2. Find a "You know you're from (your state) when" List
3. Paste it here
4. italic the ones that apply to you. Bold the ones that REALLY apply to you.

Edit: Eh, fuck the underlines, they look like shit. Use italics instead.

You know you're from Michigan when...

You've never met any celebrities. (nope)
"Vacation" means going to Cedar Point.  (or Toronto, or Chicago)
At least 1 member of your family disowns you the week of the Michigan/Michigan State football game. (no family, but at least a few friends)
You care more about college football than NFL.  (Eh, screw the NFL)
Half the change in your pocket is Canadian.....eh!  (Eh!)
You drive 86 mph on the highway and pass on the right.
Your idea of a traffic jam is 40 cars waiting to pass an orange barrel. (Stupid construction)
You know how to play (and pronounce) Euchre. (strangely enough, yes)
It's easy to get VERNORS Ginger Ale, Sanders Hot Fudge sauce, AND Faygo Pop.
You know how to pronounce "Mackinac" and "Ypsilanti".
the Big Three are either Ford, Chrysler and GM or Domino's, Little Caesar's and Hungry Howie's.
8 Mile's the name of a road, not a distance.
You've had to switch on the "heat" and the "A/C" in the same day.
You bake with SODA and drink a POP.

The movie "Escanaba in Da Moonlight" wasn't funny. You consider it a documentary.  (well, if I knew what the fuck this movie was....)
Your little league game was snowed out.
The word "thumb" has geographical, rather than anatomical significance.
You show people where you grew up by pointing to a spot on your left hand.
(Always)
Traveling coast-to-coast means driving from Port Huron to Muskegon.
You measure distance in minutes.
When giving directions, you refer to "A Michigan Left."
(If the turn involves one, yes)
You know that Kalamazoo not only exists, but isn't that far from Hell.
Your year has 4 seasons: Cold as fuck, Tornado, Construction, and Deer Hunting season. (all of them)
Hell freezes once a year. (usually)
Home Depot on any Saturday is busier than toy stores at Christmas.
You know when it has rained because of the smell of worms. (how is this different from anyplace else?)
Owning a Japanese car was a hangin' offense in your hometown. (why?)
You believe that "down south" means Toledo. (Ohio IS "down south")
you can explain the difference between yoopers, trolls and fudgies.
you are not fazed by a traffic sign saying "Snowmobile Crossing."
you know all the lyrics to "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald."
you design your kid’s Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit
shoveling the driveway constitutes a great upper body workout (fuck, tell me about it)
The Krauts in Frankenmuth love to see pictures of your Christmas tree (I bought my Christmas tree up there!)
The Big Mac is something that you drive across
Summer is three months of bad sledding
You can throw an octopus in Joe Louis Arena and not get in trouble
(during Stanley Playoffs)
It can be 80 degrees one day, and 20 the other (it's like that this week)
You think the state tree is the Orange Construction Barrel. (see them all over)
You live within 30 minutes of some kinds of automobile headquarters/manufacturing plants (True as hell)
When you see a whole car engulfed in a pothole
You've been to Hell at least once by driving there. (some people mail their taxes from there!)
You don't have to take a plane to visit Holland or Bavaria
There is an abundance of deer crossing signs
You've been to every Great Lake at least once.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE IN ANN ARBOR WHEN . . .

Your co-worker tells you she has eight body piercings but none are visible.
You make over $100,000 and still can't afford a house.
You can't remember . . . is pot illegal?
You've been to more than one baby shower that has two mothers and a sperm donor.
You have a very strong opinion where your coffee beans are grown and can taste the difference between Sumatran and Ethiopian.
A really great parking space can move you to tears.
You know there's nothing unusual about wearing shorts in April--unless you're originally from Ohio.
You assume every company offers domestic partner benefits.
Your child's third grade teacher has two pierced ears, a nose ring, and is named "Breeze."
And, after telling that to a friend, they still need to ask if the teacher is male or female.
You are thinking of taking an adult class but you can't decide between yoga, aromatherapy, conversational Mandarin or building your own web site class.
Your favorite colors are Maize and Blue, and you strongly dislike the colors green and white
You know that Maize is a shade of yellow

A man walks by in full leather regalia and crotchless chaps. You don't notice.
A woman walks by with live poultry. You don't notice.
You keep a list of companies to boycott.
Your hairdresser is straight, your plumber is gay, the woman who delivers your mail is straight and your Avon Lady is a guy in drag.
College Football is considered a major religion.
Pinball Petes and Putt Putt golf is considered a great place to hang out.
Steak and Shake is a good place for a meal at 5am.

A skyscraper is a building over 4 stories tall.
"The Mall" refers to Briarwood.
There's a Starbucks and a Borders books on every corner

You have an extreme hatred of anybody from Ohio State University, and dislike anyone from Ohio in general.
Your idea of a fun time during the summer is the Art Fair.
You're either a Pioneer or a River Rat, strongly dislike the other catagory, and know what each one of those terms means.
'The Ride' is a form of public transportation.
Detroit or Toledo is a good place for a day trip.
Tie Dye shirts are considered normal attire
You see two guys kissing in the middle of the sidewalk, and it's normal.
I like to go down to the playground and watch the kids run and jump and scream, because they don't know I'm only using blanks.

Modern anime is a stagnant cesspool of regurgitated ideas.

You know you are from Iowa when ...

During a storm you chell the cattle before you chell the kids.
You are related to more than half the town.
You can tell the difference between a horse and a cow from a distance.
Your car breaks down outside of town and news of it reaches back to town before you do.
You don't put too much effort into hairstyles due to wind and weather.
Your quarterback is hurt and you're hoping it's the first thing on the 6 o'clock news.
There's a tornado warning and the whole town is outside watching for it.
The local gas station sells live bait.
You don't buy all your vegetables at the grocery store.
You go to the State fair for your family vacation.
You get up at 5:30 a.m. and go down to the coffee shop.
You're on a first name basis with the county sheriff.
Little smokies are something you serve on special occasions.
You go to the river because it's almost like going to the ocean.
You have the number of the Co-op on speed dial.
All your radio preset buttons are country.
You try to find the cheapest room rates when going out of town.
Using the elevator involved a cr0n truck.
Your mayor is also your garbage hauler, barber, and insurance salesman.
You know you should listen to the weather forecast before picking out an outfit.
You are walking knee-deep in snow.
You call the wrong number and talk to the person for an hour anyway.
Your excuse for getting out of school is that the cows got out.
You talk with a friend about some big event you are going to attend, and by the end of the conversation you've decided you're both too broke to go.
You know cow pies aren't made of beef.
Your early morning prayer covers rain, cattle and pigs.
You wake up when it's dark and go to bed when it's still light.
You consider a romantic evening driving through Hardees and renting a hunting instructional video.
You want to buy manure.
You listen to "Paul Harvey" every day at noon.
You can tell it's a farmer working late in his field and not a UFO.
Your nearest neighbor is in the next area code.
You leave your snow tires on year-round..
You know the difference between field cr0n and sweet cr0n when they are still on the stalk.
You know the code names for everyone on the CB.
You pick up all the free stuff at the State Fair. (or County Fair)
You'll skip your cousin's funeral for the first day of deer season.
You can eat an ear of cr0n with no utensils in under 20 seconds.
You don't clean up the dog's mess because it's just fertilizer.
You wear your irrigation boots to church.
You know enough to get your driving done early on Sundays before the Sunday drivers come out.
It takes 30 seconds to reach your destination and it's clear across town.
You can tell the smell of a skunk and the smell of a feed lot apart.
The meaning of true love is that you'll ride in the tractor with him.
You consider a building a mall if it's bigger than the local Wal-Mart.

There were about five websites to chose from.

None of the Texas ones applied.

You know you're from Houston when:

You're on your way to work one FEBRUARY morning and suddenly you're trapped in a traffic jam caused by a chuck wagon and fifty horses with riders and you look around to see that everybody in the cars around you is wearing a cowboy hat.

The "farm-to-market" roads have seven lanes.

If you want to be a snob about your grocery shopping, you can go to a Randall's Flagship, a Kroger Signature, a Rice Epicurean, or soon, an HEB Central Market to buy bread and milk (but you have to dress up, and your dog and cat are out of luck if you go to the latter - nothing as mundane as pet food there).

You have to turn on the air conditioning in January, two days after a low of 29 degrees.

You have a Roach Story: You opened your flatware drawer to find a roach the size of the Taco Bell Chihuahua. He stood up and looked you in the eye. You closed the drawer, bought new flatware - and stored it in the oven. Or your friend has a Roach Story - about a dive bomber who crashed her formal dinner party, made several passes at guests whose heads were bobbing like little dogs in car windows, and finally landed in somebody's soup.

When you see your neighbor dancing around the front yard, you don't think he's won the Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes; you know that he just stepped in a fire ant bed.

You know that the Astrodome will always be the Eighth Wonder of the World.

You come to work in short sleeves and walk out at noon to find that a "blue-tailed norther" has blown through and the temperature has dropped 40 degrees in a matter of minutes.

Your neighbor's Christmas yard decorations look like a re-creation of the gunfight at the OK Corral, complete with a ten-foot tree decorated with boots and cowboy hats, and a Santa Claus who looks a lot like Wyatt Earp.

You wander into a section of town where you can't read the street signs because they're written in Asian characters instead of English, but you don't care because you can get great prices on fake designer merchandise there.

You go to an art festival on Westheimer and you're almost run down by two hand- holding cross dressers on roller blades.

15. You hear everything but English spoken when you go to the Galleria to window shop. (You can't afford to buy because the prices are jacked up for all the foreign tourists.)

You think "Y'all" is perfectly good usage if you're referring to more than one person.

20. Society matrons of "a certain age" still sport big hair and faces that have gone east, west, and north rather than south.

You can leave your house, head out of town, and an hour later you still haven't left the city limits (during rush hour, you haven't left your NEIGHBORHOOD).

You've never seen I-45 in any condition other than under construction, and you've lived here for 20-30 years.

If the humidity is below 90 percent, it's a GOOD hair day.

The only REAL Mexican food is Tex-Mex.

A 747 with the Space Shuttle riding piggyback has actually flown low right overhead, and nobody paid any attention to it.

You know that while saving you money, "Mattress Mac" has amassed more than the U.S. treasury.

You see nothing unusual about an eighty-something former sheriff's deputy who wears a white pompadour toupee and blue sunglasses, mispronounces names, allows televising of his frequent plastic surgeries, seems unnaturally obsessed with slime in the ice machine, and SCREAMS, "MAR-VIN ZIND-ler, EYE-witness news" into a television camera every night.

THE RULES OF HOUSTON

1. You must learn to pronounce the city name. It is "Ewe-stun", not "Huestun." Oh yea, it is pronounced "San Phil-a-pee," not "San Phil-eep" (San Felipe).

2. Forget the traffic rules you learned elsewhere. Houston has its own version of traffic rules...Hold on and pray. There is no such thing as a dangerous high-speed chase in Houston. We all drive like that.

3. All directions start with, "Go down Westheimer".... which has no beginning and no end.

4. The Chamber of Commerce calls getting through traffic... a "Scenic Drive."

5. The morning rush hour is from 6:00AM to 10:00AM. The evening rush hour is from 3:00PM to 7:00PM. Friday's rush hour starts Thursday morning.

6. If you actually stop at a yellow light, you will be rear-ended, cussed out and possibly shot. When you are the first one off the starting line, count to five when the light turns green before going, to avoid getting into any cross-traffic's way.

7. Kuykendahl Road can ONLY be pronounced by a native Houstonian.

8. Construction on I-10, I-45, US 59 and Loop 610 is a way of life and a permanent form of entertainment.

9. All unexplained smells are explained by the phrase, "Oh, we must be in Pasadena!!!."

10. If someone actually has their turn signal on, it is probably a factory defect.

11. All old ladies with blue hair in a pink Cadillac have total right-of-way.

12. The minimum acceptable speed on Loop 610 is 85 mph. Anything less is considered downright sissy.

13. The wrought iron on windows in east Houston is NOT ornamental.

14. Never stare at the driver of the car with the bumper sticker that says, "Keep honking, I'm reloading." In fact, don't honk at anyone. *THIS IS NOT A JOKE EITHER*

15. If you are in the left lane, and only going 70 mph in a 60 mph zone, people are not waving when they go by.

16. The Sam Houston Toll road is our daily version of NASCAR.

17. If it's 100 degrees, Thanksgiving must be next weekend.

18. When in doubt, remember that all unmarked exits lead to Louisiana.

19. You don't have to wait for an exit to get off a freeway, just follow the ruts in the grass to the frontage road like everyone else. This is how Houston residents notify Texas Department of Transportation where exits should have been built.

Tortures end me,
Death befriends me.
Of all the pains, the greatest pain
is to love, and love in vain.

This one is for Georgia since i grew up there, bolded the ones i agreed with.

You know you're from Georgia when...

Sweet tea is THE drink. No questions.

When a waitress asks what you want to drink and you say Coke, she asks "What kind?"

"Ya'll" is a word.

Atlanta is known as "The City."

You know the difference between a hillbilly, a redneck, and a Southerner.

The one way to be killed in .5 seconds is to talk about somebody's mama or talk bad to somebody's mama.

Krispy Kreme donuts are the only kind of donuts you eat.

Fried chicken is a major part of your diet.

When the Government started telling people to stock up on duck tape, you were waaaaaaaaaay ahead of them.

You walk into someone's house and people are sitting around smoking what they call "the garden"

On one side of the road there's Wal-Mart and on the other is a cotton field

You greet people with "Howdy, Whachu doin?"

You know what a 'dawg' is.

You know people who consider a six pack and a bug zapper quality entertainment.

The directions to your house include "turn off the paved road."

Your dog and your wallet are both on chains. well, when i had a dog...

You still call the refrigerator the "icebox".

You call it a cold Christmas if you don't break out in a sweat in your new sweater.

Your whole town completely shuts down for 1 inch of snow or just the threat of snow

You know at least three streets named "Peachtree"

You don't know anyone who drinks Pepsi.

The last thing you want to do is give another driver the finger... unless your car is armored, your trigger finger is itchy and your AK-47 has a full clip.

It is not a shopping cart, it is a buggy. well I try to call them carts but then noone knows what I'm talking about -_-

People actually grow, eat and like okra! yea, its yummy.

Dallas is okay, the music scene doesn't suck too much, compared to some places.
Get a little closer let it fold
Cut open my sternum and pull
