All right, after seeing the majority of this show I believe I can safely review it. G4 finally decided to play the rest of it after showing us Ep 1-13 and then stopping, then 6 months later showing us Ep. 14-21, and now finally the rest. Well, almost. They haven't played the last 2 episodes and decided to start up Gungrave again in the middle of the series. Good job G4, keep on fucking up cable tv.
I've noticed a trend with TV shows. The first episode is usually action packed and the plot has nothing to do with the rest of the show. This is to try to get people interested in the show. After that, the show slows down to do character development bullshit. Supposedly, it's supposed to speed up to a exciting climax by the end of the show, right?
Well, ROD Tv starts out action packed with a bunch of episodes that seem irrelevant to the main plot. But unfortunatly, it doesn't pick up pace but rather stagnates in irrelevance for the rest of the series. Maybe this is supposed to be shoujo with an emphasis on female friendship, because I missed the action and purpose.
Sure, it started out good while the series emphasized on the three main characters and their lesbian friend Nenene, but then at Ep. 14, they had to bring characters from the OVA. Now Yomiko (The Paper) and Nancy (Miss Deep) are hiding out in a library, Drake is working as a mercenary, and their former employer at the British Library, John Christopher (Joker) is now the main villian.
And what is he trying to do as the main villian? Ressurect some stupid old man called Mr. Gentleman. That's one of the worst part of this series. Somehow, we're supposed to care that this Mr. Gentleman will be ressurected, because he's the "reason for the UK's existance" and "He's the next leader of the world, who will bring peace and usher in a new era." Um, I'm sorry, explain to me why the ressurection of this Mr. Gentlemen is supposed be a bad thing because I FUCKING MISSED IT. The main villian's plan isn't to destory the world's armies or kill humanity or take over the world with an iron fist, it's to RESSURECT AN OLD FUCKING HAG WITH BOOKS BECAUSE HE'S SOMEHOW FUCKING IMPORTANT!
Yep. Well, I really don't care. The last 13 episodes suck anyway. All the good guys do is run, get caught, run again, get caught again, run again, get caught again, ect. And the several times they capture Mr Joker and hold him hostage, they eventually have to let him go. Why don't they just slice his head off with paper and save the world?
Other people give this series an average of 8 out of 10. I disagree. I have never been so bored with a plot since Phantom Menace. A 6 out of 10 is better and I'm being generous because the first 13 episodes of this series was actually pretty good. Then they had to fuck it up by making it connect with the OVA.
Edit: Oh, and Anita whines too fucking much. Although this might be because of the dubbing.
Now I'm going to go back to watching Gungrave because Harry just shot Brandon 20 times on an elevator, then kicked his body out the window. Kickass.
