I was looking up an article I found in a co-worker's marriage and family book about the roles of Disney heroines that I thought was funny, though the parts on the Lion King and Aladdin were left out. This 'feminist' is why I'm embarassed to ever say I'm one. She made some good points but then negated any position of credibility she had by saying Aladdin was racist, Pocahontas failed to teach history, and Scar was a fag. And how convenient that she 'forgot' to mention James Earl Jones AND Jim Cummings, a white guy who also played a hyena and the craziest one I may add. Seems to me that the hyenas were all just equally racially represented.

Prince John always scored a little higher on the queer-o-meter than a straight lion should. I don't think the lack of a mane helped him. From that, in combination with being a dainty wimp, we can only conclude that he was purposely emasculated. Until I see the movie again, I'm writing him off as merely "flamboyant".

Her interpretations are very amusing, but I don't agree with the one on Mulan.

It was set in ANCIENT CHINA. They were very sexist and set in the ways that women be quiet and only live to marry a man and birth children. Obviously, Mulan went against these standards, of course they'd treat her like shit. Of course the men had powet, in ANCIENT CHINA, women weren't burning their bras and singing "I am Woman".
