"And the latest thing they ruined..."
« on: Aug 02, 2022, 07:33:51 PM »
I'm making a dedicated topic to announced reboots and relaunches just because.

The Tiny Toon Adventures reboot, Tiny Toons Looniversity coming to HBO Max, made Buster and Babs Bunny twins. "No relation?" "Yes, relation." Also, Babs is played by a black chick. I only point that part out because I totally called it to myself. I don't know who the woman they've casted is. She came out on some show. I don't really know anything about actors anymore and if they are or aren't funny. Even if this show is utter crap, it's not this woman's fault. It's another woman's fault:

Quote
Showrunner Erin Gibson told io9:

“They’re fraternal twins, which was not an original plot point. I wanted to dive into a brother/sister relationship that looked really symbiotic and collaborative and supportive, not antagonistic. Seeing two people who are really on the same page, and then how do people who are so close make new friends? You know, find out who they are by these new relationships—these new college experiences while still having fun and doing the dumbest stuff you’ll ever see on TV, but having story and plot points and character development.”

Either way, in the end, it doesn't matter. This show's hella old now and the target audience of hers, his, and theirs want something different than what our generation wants. Even without this stupid change, the show was unlikely to be good imo anyway. Elmer and Yosemite Sam can't even have guns anymore. So meh.

And the new adaptation of Interview with a Vampire? I'll leave you to guess what happened to two out of the three main characters. Claudia is also older (and, frankly, looks it). I know she was already made older in the film. But Kristen Dunst was around 14 years and looked younger while the series actress is 18 years old and looks it. Oh, yeah, and this just in: plantations made people uncomfortable. Aren't they supposed to? So now we have brothels instead of plantations. Honestly, I didn't even remember the plantation part. But with brothels, this series appears to want to wallow in more "sex sex sex" to sell their show harder. (no pun intended) The aesthetic of this thing looks super cheap. If feels like the sets just exist in a building. The acting the trailer also feels weak to me.

Either way, I was never a huge Anne Rice fan. I've never read the book. I just like the movie. But this definitely gets slotted into the "why" box. I'm tired of this fear of original products. This show could've been it's own original vampire story in New Orleans without using Anne Rice or the book's name. Meh.

Kinda seems like TV budgets have deflated back to reality. I've been noticing this in a lot of places recently. A lot of Netflix stuff, a lot of Amazon Prime stuff, even Disney+'s St*r WarzzZZ and Marvel stuff. For a while there, "prestige" television was really starting to resemble theatrical film quality, but now it's fallen right off.

I'm really, really curious to see how Rings of Power ends up.

Oh, did you hear about Batgirl? Try to imagine how fucking awful it had to have been. Because I don't doubt that it was truly awful.

Have they?  It doesn't seem like budgets have deflated at all though. The money just appears to go elsewhere. The chick who's the showrunner on the new Tiny Toons is getting paid. And for what?  Look at her resume. SPOILERS: THERE'S NO CARTOONS ON IT. The damn industry keeps spending money on bringing in weird people to projects they have no business being on. Just like those two rando writers on the Obi-Wan series I brought up in the other topic. How much do you think these people get paid for this nonsense? Good gravy. Even if it's a dollar, it's a dollar too much.

And the thing is everything in the world just feels that way right now. To me anyway. Something good comes along and some prick in a suit sees it making money and thinks up 50 ways to cut corners and make it inferior. New Animaniacs should've been animated better than old Animaniacs. In theory. We have computers now. Cost cutting measures could be taken to make the process streamlined and cheaper. But now it's also cheaper-looking, too.

I did not hear about Batgirl getting axed. I completely forget they were even making a movie given the 1200 different cape movies and shows coming out.

Rings of Power is gonna be ass. I know it is. But it also doesn't have to be good. Wheel of Time was apparently a success for Amazon and Rings of Power will be, too.  ::)

Sorry, you have the right of it. Budgets haven't gone down, visible production value has.

There was something I watched recently that made me think, "If I had financed this project, I would be asking to see the receipts, because wherever all my money went, it certainly wasn't into this." I just can't remember what it was. It might have been something that had been crowdfunded, come to think of it. At least partially? Anyway.

After typing all that and thinking it over, I've remembered what it was: Rob Zombie's Munsters movie.

Paid for by Universal, I suppose? Like, holy shit. Supposedly it was meant to be a theatrical release at some point, but now they're saying straight to Blu-ray and Netflix. I dunno, man. Throw it in the damn dumpster, I say.

It looks like a really well done YouTube show. At the same time, it's supposed to pass for a comedy. So I can be more forgiving if the backgrounds, props, and lighting make it look cheap because cheap also makes it look like an live-action cartoon and that can be played for laughs. But a dark, broody vampire drama looking that cheap just makes it feel like there's no stakes in anything. No pun intended.

"A little over a year ago, news broke that The Witcher and Superman star Henry Cavill was in talks to potentially lead a new Highlander movie."

Wait, nobody told me!

Henry Cavill is so pretty but, man, I don't think he'd work for this. Not being protective of The Highlander or anything, I just don't Henry Cavill works for anything. He should've been the perfect Superman. Maybe he would've been if WB had gone for a happier Superman.

Anyway, in that article, it states the director attached to The Highlander reboot/remake will also direct the film adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima. Could you... Could you not? I can already see what studio behind the film looking for how to get three films out of the story. Good gravy. Leave it as a game. Go make a Sekiro movie instead.

Girl. Henry is one of the biggest pedos in Hollywood. Didn't you know this?

I LOVE her books , as a new fan of them (but an old fan of the two movies, yes even Queen of the Damned) and this new series is an atrocity. She mentions a billion times in her books how Louis and Claudia are white as hell, and talks about their backgrounds etc. There was no need for this wokeness of them being of colour. Louis was a plantation owner in New Orleans ffs. Also Claudia is supposed to be 5. Kristen Dunst , albeit older, looked younger but it makes sense that they chose her because Im sure it was almost impossible to find a girl of 5yo that had the acting chops needed to be Claudia (that was around 70-90yo when she was killed). Is there a pic of the new Armand? He's my fave tbh and although Antonio Banderas looks nothing like the Armand from the books (who looks around 16 with "curly autumn coloured hair" and the looks of a boticelli angel ) IMO he was good in it.

My input: The new anime series of Urusei Yatsura. Idgaf as long as they don't touch Ranma.

Ol' Hank likes 'em young, huh? I guess when you look like that, it's easier to get away with it.

Maybe twenty years from now he'll find himself in his very own Johnny Depp scenario.

Its well known that he used to hook up with that girl playing his daughter in the witcher (obvi before she turned 18) and also used to hook up with that girl from stranger things (can't remember her name now, she looks like she's 40 tho).

Yikes, nope, I didn't know. Although I just assume everyone in Hollywood is on drugs, has been touched, or does touching. So it's not like I'm super shocked to hear that. I didn't know tho'.

I tried watching Ranma 1/2 the other day and a lot of it is unwatchable to me. Same with Urusei Yatsura. But comedies have it rough with me when it comes to rewatching them. How do you think they'll ruin Urusei Yatsura?

I know you're joking and all but Lum art was released a while ago and it just looks like polished versions of the same art. I'm willing to at least give one episode a try. But, jeez, if this were an American** property or something... "UR rasssist!1 I made it that way alllll along." :raiseeyebrow:

I've never read Sandman but I wanted a white Death. The look is iconic. But... MEH. Yes, mess with the one aspect non-readers instantly recognize. That's okay. It's Netflix. Chances of it not being any good are super high. (Although it appears to be a hit for Netflix. I guess. I have a hard time knowing what's a hit for them or not these days.)

**I know. I said 'American' and that's not fair to J.K. "Dumbledore was gay/I never said Hermione wasn't black" Rowling.

For real, though! Death! From Sandman! Death from Sandman! Like, come on!

And honestly, take one look at the show and it's as if the casting director just found out about people descended from Africa around fifteen seconds ago. I know we like to say things aren't always just black or white, but the cast of Netflix's Sandman certainly are! "We want diversity, but not TOO much! Vanilla or chocolate, those are the choices!"

Reversi casting aside, I have been enjoying Sandman for the most part.

I just watched the teaser/trailer-thing for the new Tiny Toons. It looks so bad. Imagine making The Looney Tunes Show look like high art. When I look at stuff like this, I really wonder why. Why make something that looks like this? Wouldn't WB make more money putting the capital behind this show into real estate?

Have you watched any of the Animaniacs revival? It's rarely funny. Looniversity looks to be more of the same.

Hell, apparently new Animaniacs had a third season almost half a year ago and I didn't find out about it until just a moment ago. I don't remember anyone mentioning it anywhere.

Something else they keep bringing back that gets worse and worse with each resurrection: Futurama.

I've seen clips of it and, yeah, wasn't funny. Although to be fair, Animaniacs could be very hit and miss for me to begin with. I liked the anime segment though. Not that I found it funny either but it was interesting at least.

Something else they keep bringing back that gets worse and worse with each resurrection: Futurama.

Oh, god, it's coming back again. I hadn't heard of it coming back yet again. Stop. Make it stop. I recall, during one of its revivals, having the clear thought that it should not be coming back. I looked up when that was and it was around Season 5. This would be Season 8. :joe:

I fired up Disney+ and read some of the plot descriptions for later Futurama episodes, and I have no recollection of some of these. Either they were just that forgettable, or maybe I had given up and stopped watching at some point.

Hollywood just continues to prove that the hitherto long held physical impossibly of sucking and blowing simultaneously is in fact not so impossible after all. It's why this strike bothers me not in the least...writers prove on the regular why AI needs to replace them, and actors should run away from this abortion of an industry as fast as they can and learn to code until such time as Skynet saves 21st century mainstream media from itself.
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I think a big portion of the suckage is tied to undervaluing writers in the first place. Execs just want "content." Any writers don't necessarily seem tasked to dream up ideas but string together shite they're forced to include and tic off all the boxes. And the quality of some the people in the industry seems questionable. Like clear nepotism or cronyism hires. I have no opinions on the strike itself and I'm clearly biased towards creatives that write so it's just my two cents.

I will say that I don't lay all the blame for the sorry state of the entertainment industry at the feet of the writers; the rot starts at the top. But the only way to get through to them is by people rebelling against the crap being pushed out to them. And the results of the regurgitation you mentioned are manifesting, of which the strike is just one. Just think: how much money did Disney lose over the last few year or two? How much lost money will it take? And how much can they screw the only people who can fix it out of before everything falls apart?

The industry is going to crash, and crash hard, and it's way past overdue.

Nevermind, I'll go through it...

1. Nobody's race is an issue if they look like or at least evoke the damn characters. This is a fail.
2. No little people. (Maybe that 2nd guy is. I can't really tell. Even if he is, not enough little people.)
3. If you weren't going to use little people, why didn't you use 7 Gimlis or something?
4. An astonishing lack of beards! The beards that are there are utterly pathetic.
5. The facial hair that is there has trimming/styling that wouldn't be on a damn drawf living in the woods.
6. Why is that guy in the middle wearing a blazer!? Did he get lost on the way to his job interview?
7. Is the guy playing Jonathan--he's not supposed to be The Prince, he's Jonathan (don't ask)--wearing a fancy henley? Why is he wearing a belt that doesn't appear to be holding up anything?
8. Are two of them wearing cuffed jeans?
9. Is Woman wearing torn jean shorts?
10. WHY IS THERE A WOMAN?
11. How did the dwarves get so much colorful fabric? And how is it so bright and clean?
12. Whoever thought sewing sleeves together with huge gaps in between was a good idea should be shot.
13. If the dwarves are on their way to work, there's an alarming lack of pickaxes.
14. JONATHAN?

I just wish they quit turning animated movies into live action remakes. Course I also wish they would stop ruining St*r WarzzZZ, Indiana, Jones and Willow. But they aren’t gonna stop doing that.

Pretty sure the Willow "franchise" has been placed back in cryostasis, so you probably won't have to worry about anyone ruining it for another thirty years.

Yeah, I think they pulled it off of Disney+. I think Indiana Jones is back in the cold freezer too. I’ve been keeping up with the fall of Disney. Apparently there’s stock prices are on their way to being the lowest they’ve ever been.

You know, I really thought seven or so years ago I'd actually cease to care anymore but instead I just get increasingly disgusted at every hard crusty turdling Lucasfilm, Disney, Pixar, and Marvel shit out. My only entertainment from those brands anymore are other people taking the piss on them or me pissing on them myself.
