So... months later and I dumped Wordle. I got hooked on Octordle and now Wordle's too simple for me. Wordle also got bought by the New York Times who tries to push shit on us like ads and playing other games on their website. The NY Times also got the archive I linked to in my first post taken down. This probably belongs better in the "ruined" thread but since I already made a Wordle topic:
The discrepancy originally came to light via a BoingBoing article, which was one of the first to report it. More users complained on Twitter, with The New York Times responding to one user, stating that it has made changes in order to remove obscure words from the game.
FUCK. YOU. I've been learning new words from this game and use it to help expand my vocabulary. Half the fun is knowing an "obscure" word. Or even thinking the solution had to be an obscure word only to turn out to be something simple. I HATE HATE HATE when stuff like this gets dumbed down. People already liked it how it was.
The different solutions had only one letter in common, and one of the shared letters appeared in a different position. The original game's word of the day was "AGORA", while the word on The New York Times version was "AROMA".
Essentially, The New York Times replaced one letter and mixed up the rest, which suggests that the company selected the word "AROMA" due to its similarity to the original word, "AGORA".
Oh, no, not AGORA. Not the dreaded AGORA. Fuck right off.
This is just one of several words that The New York Times has changed. Other words include fibre, lynch, pupal, slave, and wench, plus other offensive words, or words that were not written in US English.
We can't have "lynch." We can't have "slave." The best way to acknowledge these things are bad is to treat it like your neighbor's domestic dispute disturbance: wipe it from your mind. "Wench"? "WENCH"? #itsallmen
PUPAL. OH NO. NOT THE INSECTS, TOO.
I find fucking with the words worse than any ads. But, yeah, I'm not using sites via mobile that take up precious screen space with a fucking ad.
