At our college we were lucky enough to have a small anime club even being a 2 year college. This club actually helped me get into anime.
Now, when i say club, I don't mean we went to people's houses and hung around and raided their fridge. We had a auditorium, and a projector, and a movie screen. We would gather on a saturday once a month, watch anime for 4-5 hours, between shows we would play video games and eat and raffle off prizes.
When I got to the school the club was run well with a large staff. However, the club has shrunk. People left, graduated, transferred, got married, had babies. A new president took over, ran the club, then left for another college. Then a greek friend of mine took over even though he went to a 4 year college. Either he was lazy like I've heard Greeks are, or didn't have any time, because the club died.
I would love to restart the club, even though I might go to a 4 year college next year. But I don't see how.
I have around 5 dvds of anime in my house total. If I was a hardcore otaku with a shelf 7 feet high overflowing with anime, I would have no problem running a club. But I don't.
I also don't have the means to show fansubs. Even if I could download the anime, where would I show it? I would need a computer notebook to hook up to the projection equipment, or hope the fansubbers give out hard copies. Damn it, why does notebooks have to be fucking expensive?
So, lack of anime, what the fuck am I supposed to show? Unless I can find someone to whore shows off of.
Or sponsorship. The gay anime club at one nearby 4 year university is sponsored by an anime/comic book store that loans them anime and goods. Teh Gay, I want sponsorship!
I haven't been good at anything leadership, let alone starting up anything. But I'll be damned if I don't try to start a club.
