Merry X-mas!
« on: Dec 26, 2016, 09:11:12 PM »
I didn't do much of anything this year.  Baked a few cookies.  Trying to get clean and tidy in time for the New Year.  Sucks about George Michael.  Hilarious about Sarah Michelle Gellar.  Thanks, Buffy, I needed the laughs.

In sadder news, our cat Anti's health has taken a severe turn and he's probably going to be have to be put down sometime this week.  He's an old cat and had a good life.  Still sad tho'.  :(

I would definitely eat your cookies.

My immediate reaction was that her death was a hoax, but apparently not. Requiescat in pace, Carrie Fisher.

I was telling Merla and Schmoo that 2016 is not allowed to take Sigourney Weaver or Linda Hamilton.  I will not lose Ellen Ripley or Sarah Connor in the same year I've lost Leia.

So our cat had to be put down.  Technically Merla's cat.  He took a severe turn for the worst, wasn't eating solid food, and was walking around all wobbly and disoriented.  Poor little baby.  Here he is (orange cat) with the kid (black cat) he adopted as a lackey.

My mom had to have her cat put down a few weeks back. I experienced a string of unfortunate dog deaths as a kid, so I haven't really allowed myself to get attached to any pets since then. Sorry about your cat, though.

Thanks.  We're still wondering how old he was.  He came to us as a full grown adult and then we owned him at least sixteen years.  So he could've been eighteen or even twenty years old when he died.  We were joking about how he used up his nine lives because he lived through a few issues that would've claimed another cat much sooner.  The biggest one is when he had tested positive for feline leukemia around 2000 or maybe 2002.  The majority of cats who have that will usually only make it another two or three years.  Even the vet was kinda "huh, well" about it.  He was even retested years later and still tested positive.

I hate to hear that. But he lived a charmed life. My best friend had a cat that he and his wife got when they were married, and he died on their 18th anniversary last year. A lady who used to live down the road had a cat that was 24 when she got ran over. So those suckers can hold out a good while.

At this point, I'm just trying to figure out who the third celebrity death will be...that, and watching St*r WarzzZZ (Harmy Despecialized edition, of course :P). Though I won the last three I participated in I haven't worked up a dead pool in a few years, so I'm out of practice when it comes to predictions.

Well, that didn't take long:

Yeah.  When I heard she had a stroke, I expected her to die.  But 84.  Not a bad age to go at though.  She got 24 more years than her daughter did.

They're saying a mother/daughter memorial. Knock out two birds with one stone, so to speak, to spare the family from having to go to two funerals.

I was telling Merla and Schmoo that 2016 is not allowed to take Sigourney Weaver or Linda Hamilton.
DONT EVEN SAY THAT! Sigourney is my waifu <3

So we went to Germany (as always, for Xmas and New Years). Then got back and not even two days later my kid accidentally dropped my laptop and the effing hard drive stopped working. Thats approx 6 years of memories down the drain (and no I didn't back it up - I know Im an idiot). So it took a bit to get my computer back and of course 1 day later the EFFING internet cable (under sea) got cut AGAIN so we were without internet for some days. Im still pissed about it.

Yeah nobody believes the "shark chewed the cable" excuse here anymore. Now they are saying THREE cables got cut, wtf. Obviously it has to do with politics and/or broadband usage. F--- this place regardless.

They might say that next time.

The only good thing that comes out of this is that my husband is getting more and more tired of their shit so now he's more into going back to great Nihon :3

That's cool.  Make that positive into a negative.  Btw, I'm curious, do you speak the languages?  Like Vietnamese and/or Japanese?  Or do you have to get by on your eigo or whatever?

Japanese so and so. I can understand more than I can speak. I have many books so sometimes I study. I have the app Wanikani so Im always learning new kanji (and already know hiragana and katakana).

Vietnamese is one of the ugliest languages Ive ever heard so no, I've never tried to even learn it. I do know some words and phrases tho.

Do you know enough Japanese to get by or do you need to fall back on another language?

I can go and buy stuff at supermarkets, malls etc. Yeah thats fine. But if its about me calling the electric company for some reason? then no. Thats why im trying to continue "my studies". Its so hard tho :'(

Do you want to learn Japanese? I definitely recommend Wanikani for the kanji learning. its great
