Actually its therapy for 3 months, live as desired sex for a year then surgery if you are approved for it, if Im not mistaken.
Its in the Harry Benjamin Standards of Care.
There are some ways to circumvent the system however, though thats not advised.

even in the case the person was crazy, it would still be his/her fault, not the doctor.

No, the doctor would get sue for malpractice if the person was not happy with what they had done to themselves.
Thats why the SOC is there, to protect the doctors and to protect people from making the wrong decisions.

I saw that episode of CSI. X__X Of course that's extreme. I guess the reality would be more like Thailand or someplace that-a-way.

And all I remember of Ro is someone with that username. I knew nothing about the person or any connection with Adam.

Also, I don't believe in allowing people to just change their sex either with no prior treatment or preparation. It's a huge decision, and shouldn't be done rashly. It's not like a hair cut that'll just grow out. It's a whole new way of life.
