Last week's sermon was kinda interesting. It was about the story of Job. If you don't know what that's about (and most people here probably don't), Job was a rich, happy man with a big family and a very devout man, and Satan decided to test his faith by making him loose all his wealth, his family died, and he almost died. And even though he goes through crap, he never looses faith.
The point was, no matter what happens, have faith and God will take care of you. Unless you die or something.
But there's a second way I saw the story. I think it's about how you shouldn't go too crazy if bad shit happens to you. No matter what happens to you, it's fate or the will of God or something, and you can't change most of it, so why get angry? Your car falls apart, your house burns down, you go to prison, you get raped, you lose a leg, you're stuck in a wheelchair for life and you starve to death.
Most of that is stuff you can't prevent. Like car accidents and stuff. You're gonna die eventually, and you've got it a lot better than people in India or Africa, so why throw a fit.
If I go to prison, if I get a criminal record and commit suicide because no one wants to be near me, if God or other heavenly beings want my life to be misreable, then what can I do? If it's my fate to be raped or killed in prison, there's nothing I can change about that. I'm not going to get worked up about it and I'll just try to enjoy life now while I still can. Who knows, maybe I'll die tomorrow in a drive by shooting.
Life sucks. You die eventually. Who knows what God wants to do with you. Screw it all. Not worth worrying about. Don't get emotional about things you can't change. Why do you think I'm so unconcerned about court and loosing my job? (Edit: uncocerned as in not cowering in a corner listening to emo music and cutting my wrists with razors while drunk and stoned on LSD)
