This is playing right now on G4TechTv, 1am. It started last night, or rather this morning.

It's from Gainax and is like FLCL meets Alice in Wonderland. Two 12 year old kids are best friends and have lived at this old shopping arcade since they were born. But now some deveopers are demolishing it to put a huge mall there, and in demolishing it, destroy 4 magical seals. With the seals gone, it opens up a gateway to multiple parallel universes that are totally screwed up, and now the two kids have to save the universes and get back to their own.

The dub is annoying though. Since the show's set in Osaka, they give the main characters southern accents. <_<

I just started getting Full Metal Panic! through Netflix, but Abenobashi is the next series. So I'll start watching it in about two weeks.

I liked FLCL at first but then after repeated viewings it got annoying.

I've seen one volume of Van Helsing. I didn't think what I saw was terrible but maybe it gets worse later. At least Crispy Coat Fryman avoided an English accent in the dub.

I've seen one episode of Full Metal Panic as well as read that manga insert in Newtype and it didn't grab my interest in the least. Another annoying school girl... bleh.

The anime Hellsing? I hated it when I tried to watch it in order. The 1st 3 episodes are nothing but Seras whining & angsting. Bleh.

I was refering to the Hollywood expriment in audience insulting, Van Helsing. That guy is the absolute worst Dracula ever. Ever.

Hellsing wasn't that great, but the manga is cool. There's actually something going on there, although it is the tired old "South American Nazis" schtick. Dunno if it's ever been used with vampires, though. Never saw the Van Helsing train wreck, though. I figure if I stay away from that, Punisher, Catwoman, and Hulk, I'll be doing well for myself.

Getting back to Full Metal Panic, it has the schoolgirl thing going, but it apparently has more to it after the first few episodes. I won't know for sure until I see the 2nd & 3rd DVD volumes, which came in this morning's mail.

I prefer the second series of Full Metal Panic. Straight-up comedy and none of that save-the-world-with-generic-giant-robots crap. Although I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much without having watched that first series for context. Huh.

I hear there's going to be a third, that'll be more like the first. Boo.

The second one was certifiably funny. There were no German goldfish, none of that shit. I'm talking about genuine humor over here.

Back on topic, Abenobashi was a decent show with a handful of great moments, but for the most part its crap outweighed its merits. And the southern accent thing, when used in any series, bugs my ass to no end. Thank God David Lucas didn't apply it to Mugen in Samurai Champloo.
