Yikes! I have one of my mom's valentines from 1935 with two black kids on it and the little boy has the girl in a chokehold saying, "Woman - kiss me while you's is able!" Apparently, that was considered perfectly appropriate for an 8-year-old girl to receive from a male classmate back then.

I remember the big thing one year in elementary was to call this 800 number to hear a song about welfare benefits in "Coon Town". The Klan kept a toll-free number for recruitment purposes, and didn't count on kids calling it and giving the number to their "colored" friends. Dunno how long it took, but it wasn't up for very much longer after that.

But what makes this worse is that this was something regular people thought was great at the time.

I'm reminded of a chick in my speech class this past Saturday who gave a speech of St. Patrick's and Irish oppression or something something but I zoned out. It was boring. The crochet lady was more interesting. It was quite sad that the crochet lady was more interesting than a lot of things.

I never have to say it - people come up to me and say some variation of "I'll bet you're Irish" all the time. Even when I'm not drunk.

I hate how everytime I get asked about my ancestry and I tell them that I'm a quarter Irish, a quarter Scottish and half Spanish, they automatically ask that half came from Mexico. For one, Spain is a fucking country and secondly I'm WAYYY too white.
