Michael Bay didn't make the Transformers movies successful, the fans did. Transformers fans are certifiably insane in their undying devotion to their beloved robots in disguise. Transformers products have endured for decades and are even more popular and profitable now than they were back in the glory days of the '80s.

TMNT is not Transformers.

I've seen evidence to the contrary regarding Transformers' films success--namely numerous non-fans irl going rabid for the dumb Transformers movies because they look cool and gots explosions. But I hope you're right about the movies being mostly supported by a crazy fanbase and alien TMNT flops on its ass.

That's been my experience too. Fan boys go see it, but they don't seem to like it. (although they always hope the next will be better and fork over their cash when it comes out.) Where as the public that doesn't know anything about Transformers other then "It was a cartoon in the 80's." seem to love all the fancy robots, pretty explosions, and broad stroke stereotype characters that come with the short attention span generation of theater goers.

Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what I imagined.

Also, there's talk about the turtles no longer being teenagers because the title is supposedly gonna be shortened to "Ninja Turtles". The full title was always a mouthful so I'm not actually concerned that they wouldn't be teenagers. Movies tend to skew young whenever possible. But to bring up another subject I saw on another board, how do they expect the movie and upcoming cartoon to support each other if they keep the origin story (more or less) for the toon but change it radically (no pun intended. okay, so I'm lying) for the movie?

I imagine the people making the movie probably couldn't care less about the cartoon, and vice versa.

For example, Bayformers and Transformers Prime are pretty disparate.
