Re: YJ. I actually didn't expect anything from it. I strongly disliked Teen Titans, The Batman, and tBatB. I didn't see them magically changing my mind. I'm at the point where I've accepted that I'm far outside the target demographic and it will be a rare time when I enjoy a show aimed primarily for teens and tweens. I do think though that they honestly could've done better and still catered to their intended audience.
I have no probs with the main characters themselves, overused stereotypes or otherwise. (Except that Aqualad's really kinda boring but that can be fixed.) I think I stated it before, but YJ would have benefited imo by having stories featuring character situations. Nothing happens in the damn show without it being some "brilliant scheme" thought-up by the big bad organization of talking heads. I'd like to see them tackling teen situations--school, family life, etc--as well as superhero duties that have little if anything to do with some cackling silhouette's heinous idea.
I think Weisman and co. did this great in Gargoyles. Not everything that happened was a Xanatos plot. For ex., if anyone remembers this, that episode where Puck tries to steal the Phoenix Gate. That was related to the Gathering which in turn ended up being connected to Xanatos in the strangest way possible, but the crux of that episode was that Puck was doing what he wanted for his own reasons. If that had been a YJ, it'd end with them saying some shit like "Sure you didn't get the Phoenix Gate but you were doing just what you were supposed to do, muah ha ha". Boo. STFU. This giant over-reaching plot arc is coming off so damn contrived.
