I don't remember how long it takes to get to OK or even to Austin, Dallas or Houston since it's been a while. I do know it takes me a little over an hour to visit my dad. His town's too small for the map, but New Braunfels is a good proximity. I have never left through the Panhandle. It's for losers as far as I'm concerned. Nor have I crossed through the Pan... er, pointy thing where El Paso is.

According to King of the Hill last night, it takes 6 hours to go to Witicha Falls from Arlen.

Man, that sounds maddening. The last time I passed through Austin the traffic was a bitch so I just slept through. Dallas was easier to go through, but that might've been due to the time of day. Otherwise, it's smooth sailing on the way up.

Miami is awful because there's always an accident on a major road, which causes the minor roads more traffic. Me and Kary encountered a massive roadwork traffic jam @ 1am. I just wanted to go home and I had to sit out in the middle of no where stopping and going so they could cut into the pavement.

I've been to the Pan Handle. Lubbock to be exact. It wasn't anything to write home about. Been to Dallas twice too. Never been into south Texas before.

And there is no way it takes 6 hours to get from Garland to Witicha Falls. I can get from here to Ames, IA in 6 hours and that is easily twice that distance.

It used to fucking awful to get through Dallas/Fort Worth, but its pretty smooth at all times now, especially if you go on the outside of both metroplexes, but don't go between them. You can go through both ciites pretty easily, but the middle part is confusing and has toll roads.

San Antonio I believe is the largest city without a public rail system or some kind. There is an Amtrak, but I've never taken it. Anyway, TX is not very train friendly to begin with. If you want to live and work in the majority of the state as far as doing so intercity is concerned, you need a car.

The Amtrak SUCKS. It's always late. Ad the Acela, even though its supposed to be like the type A/first class train, its late too. But since I rather take trains than cars, I can't bitch too much about it. Although its way more money, ie: a bus ticket to go from Philly to NY cost anything from 1 buck to 10 bucks (one way), while in the Amtrak is 45 bucks and the Acela is 120. Is it worth it? Only if you get nauseous on the bus :-(
