Democratic candidate for governor Farouk Shami says white people not willing to work in factories.  I like to say his name Shamu, like the dead whale.

Democratic candidate for governor Farouk Shami said Friday that white people are not willing to work in factories and as a result, Hispanic labor is essential to the Texas economy.

Shami, a Houston hair care magnate, made the statements during a taping of WFAA’s Inside Texas Politics, which airs at 9 a.m. Sunday on Channel 8.

“A majority of the people are going to be Hispanic and African-American,” he said. “You don’t find white people who are willing to work in factories. And our history proves lots of time when … the white people come to work in a factory they either want to be supervisors or they want to be paid more than the average person. And unfortunately they exit.”

“I don’t know what Mr. Shami was talking about,” [frontrunner in the race, Bill] White said. “Texas is too good for stereotypes. Everybody is made in the image of God.”

Ahaha, Bill White, you make me laugh.  As for Shamu, he shot that one through his blow hole.  We're a big state and there are poor white Texans just as willing and eager for factory work that he basically alienated.  Anyway, neither of these guys is gonna win.  This state's still too red, so it'll be Rick Perry or Kay Bailey Hutchinson.

She's gaining in the polls and Hutchinson is sliding back a bit. She went from 4% in November to 16% in February (2nd). Plenty of people are pissed about Hutchinson's Washington politics, and it is starting to show effect. Medina is supported by the tea party- I'm so glad they stopped calling them teabaggers -and her support is growing. Whether she's worth a damn, I don't actually know.

'Blacked up' Gerard Depardieu sparks race row

Depardieu has rejected the discussion over his right to play the mixed-race author Alexandre Dumas because he is a blue-eyed blonde.

He said the debate over his role as The Three Musketeers writer in the big-budget production L'Autre Dumas is "ridiculous" and "unnecessary".

But France's Representative Council for Black Associations has questioned whether he should have been cast as a man with Afro-Caribbean heritage, saying black actors are not chosen to play white roles in French cinema.

Depardieu said the issue is "not interesting" and "not a problem".

Dumas was the grandson of a Haitian slave.

Yeeeeeah, I really had no idea Dumas had some Haitian blood.  Learn something new everyday.

Also, semi-OT I saw Depardieu's turn as the Count of the Monte Cristo in the four-part mini-series of the same name.  Each part was about movie size.  1-2 were pretty much brilliant but in 3 it starts to unravel and by 4 it was a downhill slope of wtf.  Eugenie Danglars was cut out completely.  Most of the movie had the count hooking up with some pale Titian-haired waifette Camille De La Richardais.  Who the FUCK is that and why did they even bother?  She wore out her welcome hella fast, but no, she had to stay for the entire frickin' series and was all sobbing "i love j00" to the count.  Then at the end, Dantes ends up with Mercedes while Haydee and Franz d'Epinay hook up.  Teh fuck?  The Haydee they had was beautiful and she was cheated out of screen time.  As was the actress who played Mercedes.  For who, some dumpy odd looking bird-woman?  Was this a color-slight of some kind or is Darel big in France or some shit?  Or did Depardieu just have to "make it with her" because then I'm really apalled.  =p
