I sometimes tell people I'm part Jewish, since my sister-in-law is Jewish and so I guess is my niece. Then they tell me you can't be Jewish by association. =/

I once watched a documentary on Monty Python coming to America, and one of the commentators said it quite well, I paraphrase, "In American comedy, we explain the joke, tell the joke, then explain why it's funny."

Ha, yeah, that.

Re: Woman and comedy.  Considering there's so much unfunny stuff out there, I don't think it could hurt for women to be given a better shot at some of this shit.  The fact is that they simply aren't.  When I thought about funny men vs. funny women, no one makes me laugh that much more than the other.  It's just that they're more men out there, period.  I don't think women are given much of a chance of being funny either, not as writers or actresses.  (Kinda like a Looney Tunes thing where no one wanted to drop an anvil on or blow up a girl.)

Quote from: IDE
You for instance have made me laugh before.

If you knew me in person, I would be counted right along those unfunny chicks.  I don't tend to crack jokes at school or work or with people I barely know.  I'm kinda uptight at first, to the point where if I cuss or something, I tend to get this WTF stare like the notion was at first inconceivable.

My ex was jewish. That makes me 1/4 jewish and able to make jokes about them. It's just by association.

Jews are both a religious and ethnic group.  You can practice Judaism and not be a cultural or ethnic Jew.

Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

He's jewish even though his mom was catholic. His dad "made him" jewish only so he could keep on with the family's business (jewelries) or some stupid shit like that. In other words so he could go and chill with other jews and be accepted. Totally stupid.

OT - Racism in old cartoons makes me laugh.  I don't even mean Looney Tunes or anything either.  It's not like outright, but the undertones are obvious.  I've been watching Ducktales and there was chanting dark Magic Negro natives, a pizza-flipping mama-mia Italian, and exploited druids.  And Ninja Turtles was just... forget the abuse of Ninjitsu, no one cares anyway.  The turtles pretending to be black as a gag?  Ho ho.  The worse are the dudes in Yoshi's dojo with the buck teeth!  "You seh solly to oul honolable mastaa."  ORLY?  :lmao:

The most racial holiday is coming up, Saint Patrick's Day. Quest love freaked out over NBC serving fried chicken, yet no one complains about corned beef and potatoes.

Just racism. Best line from Blazing Saddles; "We'll take the Niggers and the Chinese, BUT NO IRISH!". That's why I'm convinced soon 'Hispanic' will vanish from the American census form and all will be assimilated into 'White' just to piss off the more visually recognizable minorities.

Lots of Hispanics are already labled as white so it won't make that much of a difference, with "white" on our birth certificates or some shit like that.  Italians are white now, it's close enough.

Yup. It's hard to think of it, but French up here still hate Irish and Italians and consider them black or brown. There's still Italians that refuse to wear green on Saint Paddy's day, and in protest wear red for some Italian Saint who shares the day but no one cares about.

Silly Tom, Italians are orange.

And yes I agree with Nuri, I've filled a lot of forms in these past 2 months and some of them now consider hispanic part of the caucasian category

I see it as always listing "Caucasian non-Hispanic," and "Caucasian."

I always like to mark the Caucasian or white chell box, as well as the "prefer not to answer" chell box, but the internet often won't let me do so. Stupid internet.

No one believes I'm Puerto Rican. -_- To be fair though, living in Kentucky for a 1/4 of my life took the Spanish out of me and I'm pretty light skinned. The only one that figured it out was a Puerto Rican friend of mine.

She's 100%. Her family doesn't think I know what they say when they say it. Except her Mom, her Mom figured out I can speak Spanish.

Well my guess is that after being with someone for a long time and listening to her/him talking in another language, you start "assimilating" it, like without noticing it you start understanding stuff. Happened to me with this one and also with my best friend of years ago that was arab, at the end I could understand a lot of her conversations with her family.
