Crickets
« on: Sep 29, 2009, 11:46:53 PM »
Anyone else hate the little bastards as much as I do?

It's not like I'm afraid of bugs or anything, but I flip a shit on the rare occasion that one crawls across my foot while I'm on my computer, or worse I wake up with one on me.  Worst aspect of fall, if you ask me.  Seems like if I don't kill all of the little fuckers, I'll be dealing with them all winter...  :rawr:

I don't mind them quietly crawling on me, if I know they are there. If it comes out of nowhere (this is with any bug, and roaches are the main culprit in this area) then it is frightening.

What is worse with crickets and grasshoppers is when your walking down the street minding your own business and one jumps into your eye socket. Fuck that shit.

I just hate them rubbing those legs together when I'm trying to sleep. Then I have to tear the house apart till I find him.

There were a HELL of a lot of 'em chirping the other day.  They never've ambushed me tho'.  Yesterday I was talking to Merla and felt something on my neck and realized it was a ladybug.

We also have the silent, blind cave crickets here too.  Some people call them spider crickets too.  They're fucking annoying as they'll blindly jump at you.  But like Rama, I tear shit apart to find them and silence the chirping.

The chirp is good - you have warning, as opposed to the divebombing giant Texas roaches.  You're lucky to hear a faint flutter of wings before the attack.  :o

One year, while living in a dorm at MSU, we were completely and utterly inundated with crickets. It was like a declaration of war against humanity was made and the invasion had begun. Every corner was halfway up the walls in crickets, and you couldn't walk anywhere without stepping on them and having to keep from slipping on the cricket guts. Windows were covered, and forget about sleeping. Luckily we had AC...I'd have hated to have had to sleep during those hot months with the windows open with a horde of creaking crickets lurking outside.
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

An ex-girlfriend mentioned her dorm in Abilene, TX was also like that.

I remember back when I worked for DQ and LJS, there would be these cricket invasions.

We have no crickets in Philly. The only wild life we have are doves and squirrels.
