I saw Morgan! With your favorite, Kate Mara! Honestly this was the perfect role for her. Zero emotion, zero personality.

The Tomatometer has cast it into the pit, but I liked it! Expected a trash teen horror flick, got a relatively competent sci-fi film. Surprised the heck out of me.

I'm kinda annoyed by things trying to have twists where twists aren't needed. Not that I'm saying this one didn't need the twist but I was reminded of how the last few Disney things stick in some stupid-ass twist. Hans was bad all along. King Candy was Turbo. The sheep was behind it all along. Tadashi died for fuckin' nothing. At least the King Candy thing was sorta telegraphed. We knew he was bad earlier, the twist was more to his motive.

Oh man, BH6's villain was SHIT. Tadashi should have been the villain! I'd leave it to the writers to figure out how that would work, but yeah. That villain was SHIT.

Watched the Lego movie last night. I heard it was a good showcase for UHD setups.

Holy crap. I forgot it was basically a 3D animated retelling of the Matrix. Can't believe I watched something that looked like that in my house.

Omg, guise, I'm sitting through the Boxtrolls. This shit's painful. I just have it on as background noise but how didn't this flop hard? Nearly everyone's gross, especially the villain. At least the latter half picks up a bit. The craftsmanship put into this drivel saddens me.

EDIT: Looking at the box office numbers, it still looks like a flop. Usually at least twice the budget, right?

That's part of the reason I've never bothered to watch it. I remember seeing the trailers and absolutely hating how all the characters looked -- especially the protagonist! Looks like a British child actor.

They were British. The VA for the MC even has the same wobbly-ass head. Thing is, I'm not even completely against something looking sorta ugly. But when you do ugly, the charm has to be dialed up to 11. These characters acted how they looked. Some of the boxtrolls themselves managed to grow on me but none of the humans ever did. The little girl in the movie was the stock "imma tough independent girl, luk how stupid muh family is. luk at what an utter ass i'm being to this feral child."

And there was this whole thing about it reading transphobic. The disgusting bad guy dresses up as an equally disgusting woman and proceeded to have all of the men wagging their tongues over him. It was very "look at this sicko dressing up as a lady. isn't he an ugly lady? he's a man in a dress, innit he?" <<=== That was their schtick. They totally ran with it.

The elephant in the room being that nothing is ever made of the bad guy dressing up as a lady in the book. Yeah, this shit's based on a book. In the book, it's a disguise he uses like Bugs Bunny would in that he's just perpetuating his scam. The MC discovers the clothes and puts two and two together, but it never plays into the plot as heavily as it does in the film version. In the film, the villain is actually being continually sexually harassed. It's weird. It's like they went out of their way to make it extra cringey.

The Blair Witch

Pretty much the same problem as the Force Awakens. Almost exact same story as the original, but we more flash and less substance that makes it lesser then the film it is aping. Two many jump scares and you see the Blair Witch. They are quick glimpses, but you do see her like 3-4 times.

Oh, shit, that was actually a different film? I saw Internet ads (text ads) and saw it was showing in some theaters here in town, so I thought they were just rerunning the old one for, like, Halloween or something. Even tho' Halloween's over a month away but all the holidays keep creeping forward anyway so I thought nothing of it.

Miss Peregrine is probably one of Burton's better efforts in recent memory. Still, it's not great by any means. And there's a CG sequence towards the end that is just horrendous.

If I could communicate with my past self, I would recommend against it.

The Accountant.

Man, I really liked it. Way more than I thought I would. There was some goofy circumstantial shit in there, but I can overlook it. So good.

I won't say exactly what it was, but very early on I leaned over to the people I was seeing it with and said, "How lame would it be if this ended up being that?" And they both groaned. But then by the end it totally happened. It didn't even matter though, because everything else was just great.

Shin Godzilla. I wish it had more Godzilla smashing up shit. I mean, all the Godzilla stuff was great but sooo much of the movie was the humans talking about Godzilla. Stage 1 Godzilla was legit nightmare fuel.

Granted I haven't seen a huge number of Godzilla movies. Maybe three of them. This movie did such a good job of making Godzilla scary. Not "scary boo" (ok, maybe the first stage a bit) but scary as in he felt like a legit threat to humanity. The human element didn't live up the fear that threat should've presented. People should've been committing suicide and backstabbing each other. Even in a structured culture like what the Japanese have, it remained too calm and orderly at times.

The movie probably could've benefited from some Evas fighting Godzilla. Or at least some other kaiju. It felt like there needed to be more large scale action. There was a preview for another King Kong movie that played and it infuriates me that they revealed so much of Kong. Like, you can get away with not revealing him. Even though I didn't care for any of the actors, I was getting a bit hyped with how they were teasing it. And then they revealed him and all the hype-air or whatever got sucked out at once. Save the reveals for the fucking film. Yeah, you know what he looks like but they actually gave him a serious height upgrade. That would've been a cool thing for the casual viewer to be shocked at. At least it wasn't Inferno aka the one with the DaVinci Code guy Robert Langdon played by Tom Hanks. Merla had to shush me because I was all "Did they just show us the entire freakin' movie in the trailer?" all loud. What makes it bad is that there's already been two Robert Langdon films. The viewer's gonna recognize Tom Hanks as the character and know they're in for an adventure full of riddle-solving and intrigue. And the fuckin' trailer was taking us step by step through everything.

Just got back from Marvel's Doctor Pepper. All things considered, it wasn't too shabby. There's one scene in particular that just looks like a fakey shitshow, and the humor comes across as forced more often than not, but it's not a bad movie by any means.

And I really expected it to be. I had this one pegged as the beginning of the end, but nope, the train rolls on.

I guess next up is Guardians Part Deux. That one is guaranteed to make money, even if it isn't great.

Yeah, pretty much. I wonder how much—if any—steam Fantastic Beasts will take out of Doctor Strange. Ha ha, I almost typed that out as "Fantastic Breasts." This is gonna be a tough month for me.
