Too bad it wasn't the gun from Duck Hunt.

Quote
Boy shot, dies after video game argument

JACKSON, Mississippi (AP) — An 11-year-old boy in Mississippi accidentally killed his 9-year-old brother with a shotgun blast Tuesday as the two struggled over the gun after arguing about a video game, authorities said.

The younger brother died after being shot with a 12-gauge shotgun at his home near the Red Banks community in northern Mississippi, Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson said.

"The younger brother allegedly got mad because he got beat at some video games and got the gun," Dickerson said.

Dickerson said the older brother initially said he never touched the gun. He first told deputies that the younger boy got the gun and pointed it at himself, saying "this is how I'm going to shoot you." But after more questioning, and being told that his account didn't match evidence at the scene, the older boy said the weapon accidentally discharged as the two struggled over it.

"That version we can live with because it's consistent with the evidence," Dickerson said.

Dickerson said the shotgun was too long and heavy for the younger boy to hold it against his own chest and pull the trigger.

The district attorney will look at the case, but it's likely the older brother won't be charged with a crime because he is under the age of 13 and "it appeared to be an accident anyway," the sheriff said.

Marshall County Coroner James Richard Anderson said the brothers' father was outside cutting the grass at the time of the shooting.

The boys' father told deputies the gun was kept unloaded in a closet at the home, the sheriff said. The 9-year-old had fired the gun before with his father's supervision, and investigators believe he knew how to load it himself.

As a gun-owning Mississippian, I think dad should have his ass kicked up around his shoulders for leaving his guns accessible to a 9 year-old and teaching him how to use something he wasn't mature enough to know when and why to use.
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Everyone should take a gun safety course and then get shot so we all know how it feels.

Seems to me it was as simple as keeping the gun locked up and inaccessible in a household with children in it.  It could be that the 9-year-old was perfectly sound to handle a gun and the older brother is the one who got the gun and is telling lies.

I'm sure this will some how be the video games fault instead of the father's.

The fuckedup media and special interest groups always move the blame to the bigger 'issue' in their eyes. Too bad the game was Wii fit.

Wii Fit should have a M rating sticker on it!

Too bad it wasn't true.  That would've been something.  Not that it isn't horrible that a little boy died, but grabbing a gun over a Wii Fit game would've been so ironic.  Now we're gonna find out they were playing GTA and were hyper-violent to begin with.

Going back to the article, I understand *possibly* feeling all right about leaving an unloaded gun in the unlocked closet, but then where did the kid get the ammo?  Why bother keeping it unloaded if the box of shells are right there on the floor or something?  Now not only did this cost a child's life, but it wasted his time, too.  He could've been mixing himself a drink from the unlocked medicine cabinet instead of spending those precious seconds trying remember how to load the gun.

Bullshit is going to feature violent video games on a new episode.

Is that with Penn and Teller or am I thinking of another show?

On a semi-related note, my Playstation finally konked out after I don't know how many years.  I guess whenever I get a job, I'll finally upgrade.  A PS2's only a $100 now, right?  I'm not certain I want a 3.  I only want a PS so I can play my old games and that thing is too pricey w/ compatibility issues anyway.

My Xbox 360 is giving me a blinking red light, but not the red ring of death Thank God.

Course my old Xbox is still running smooth as silk even after being thrown around after it was put in a backpack. Wish they would have made the new box a tough as the old one.

I finally have broadband to play my Xbox online, but I don't think there's anybody there anymore.

I was on  back in the winter and didn't have any trouble finding a game. (Biggest problem I had was half my team bailing when it started to look like we might lose. Always stuck with when we won, but never when we lost. Well that and one time I had to listen to a whole conversation between two Emo High School kids about how they got My Chemical Romane tickets instead of paying attention to the game.) What game you trying to tack someone down for.

That happens constantly on LotR conquest, one of the only games I play on the PS3 online. The second we're starting to lose, either they just do nothing or they all leave. Then we lose with one team being full (8 players) and one side having 3.

Yeah it was four on two a lot since two people always split on me on Halo 3.

What game you trying to tack someone down for.

None in particular.  I don't have time to play, much less online.  It's yet another whine about timing...why couldn't I have gotten this four years ago when I had time, money, and actual desire to play?
