I'm not the overtly-religious type...

Quote
... the president is corrupting his faith by using it as a marketing tool designed to garner support among the over 60 million Americans who identify themselves as evangelical -- particularly the 4 million born-again voters who stayed home in 2000.

Nowhere is this blending of church and campaign more evident than in "George W. Bush: Faith in the White House," a DVD being distributed to tens of thousands of America's churches.

Although not officially the work of the Bush-Cheney campaign, it obviously has its approval, and indeed was screened at a party for Christian conservatives hosted by the campaign at the GOP convention in New York.

In the documentary, President Bush is presented as a man with "the moral clarity of an old-fashioned biblical prophet" -- and is shown sharing a beatific split screen with the Son of God himself. So, in 2004, Jesus is not only the president's favorite philosopher -- he's his surrogate running mate. I'm surprised we haven't seen any "Bush-Christ 2004" bumper stickers yet. It would make for a heck of an October surprise.

Maybe someone with more Biblical knowledge than myself has evidence to the contrary, but I can't remember Christ ever saying anything regarding abortion or homosexuality, two of the GOP's major campaign planks.  I do, however, recall a few words regarding men who made ostentatious displays of their faith, and they weren't very complimentary ones.  <_<

However, the following puts into words EXACTLY why I can't stand Bush:

Quote
Suskind (Ron, in his book The Price of Loyalty) reveals a president who uses his faith to numb himself against reality. It anesthetizes him in the same way a stiff drink -- OK, 20 stiff drinks -- used to, and allows him to drown out the voices of doubt.

The man is a Dry Drunk; someone who no longer consumes alcohol but redirects  behavior once channeled into addiction toward another all-consuming obsession.  By his own admission he IS an alcoholic, yet he never actively treated his drinking problems - he just "quit drinking and prayed about it."   Yet another idiot who treats alcoholism as a moral failing to be "snapped out of" without addressing the underlying causes.

The man needs treatment and counseling, not a position of responsibility.

In a month we'll never have to hear from this guy again. So just ignore him.

I'm trying not to worry. Common sense would say he's out the door, but complacency loses votes.  Already somebody's dog in Florida has apparently eaten 58,000 absentee ballots - if they don't show up in the mail by Tuesday, that's 58,000 people who can't vote because once one requests an absentee ballot, that's it - the vote either has to be cast absentee OR the voter has to turn in the blank ballot at their polling location to be allowed to vote in person.

There are only so many votes they can prevent or steal -- a massive turnout will overwhelm their perfidy.

We'd probably treat him just the same as we treat Faye or Megs.

Well Christ didn't say much of anything really.  If the bible is to believed, all Jesus did was bum around the countryside telling stupid parables to people. And when asked by his disciples why he only spoke in parables, he pretty much had this to say.  <_<

Christians get most of their actual ideology from Paul, who did in fact made several statements on what the Christian God thinks of matters such as homosexuality like in Romans 1:26,27

Quote
For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

I don't know however where the Christians got all their anti-abortion 'sanctity of life' crap from however. Life isn't all that sacred in the bible. And although life in the NT may not be as cheap as in the OT, there's even a funny passage in Matthew in which Jesus is critized by the Pharisees for not washing his hands before dinner, and he defends himself by scolding them for not killing disobedient children in accordance with OT law.

Yes God that bless fine nation of yours, as long as He keeps His stinking feet out of mine.

I find Paul (Saul) eminently ignorable. The particular passage I was thinking of is attributed to Christ from 1 Matthews 6:5:

Quote
When thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men

And I think a parable was included in the deal as well.  B)

Um. How is that, exactly? No one ever calls me a Peruvian.

Oh, and great link Rumble. I am indeed glad that you're back here, and not too busy being dramatic anymore. Your presence entirely cancels out that of the monkey. BTW this one down here really entertains me.. it's the last frame that so awesome!

In that case you should probably chell out the Old Testament. The book of Joshua is one of my personal favorites.
