Topic 1: X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
« on: May 19, 2009, 08:38:59 PM »
What a shitty movie this was. Instead of the win that was X-Men and X2, they continued X-Men United with just adding too much shit and transforming Wolverine into a whiney pussy and taking established characters and ruining them. Any X-Men movie made is a good one if it succeeds because it will promote more, and they can't keep producing shit, right? RIGHT?!

Pros:
  • Cyclops was awesome, just awesome. I love how much of a cunt the teacher was to him. It makes me still want Venom Vs Cyclops: Offscreen/ambigious deaths movies.
  • Liev Schriber made the film with a better Sabertooth, though perhaps he should have been the focus with Wolverine secondary. The film could have been better set up with Sabertooth the leader/toughguy and Wolverine the snivelin brat, and when Weapon X needed to be made, it failed on Sabertooth. Then Sabertooth regresses to a feral being while it sticks with Wolvering, changing his personality.
  • The chicks were banging, but that's all to say about them.

Cons:
  • Horrible Story. Just badly written, it sounded more like a fanfic.
  • Horrible Special Effects. I've seen better on Scifi movies.
  • Way too many mutants. The Hulk movie was good because it only featured three superbeings, and only two were major storyline inclusions. Iron Man also followed this. Why so many fucking mutants, especially when Wolverine was in the title.
  • Silver Fox. Was she really needed in the story? Couldn't Wolvey been more appalled with Sabes?
  • Professor X? What the fuck was that?
  • Emma Frost? Was that her? Did they just want to fuck with things some more?
  • and finally, Deadpool. What to say that hasn't been said already. I dunno, I love comic deadpool, I mean look at my pic! This mimics X-Men 3 where they take cult characters and just fuck with them to a horribleness. I didn't mind the messing with Agent Zero/Maverick, since he's always a more ancilairy character that himself changes background and personality constantly, but to fuck with Deadpool when you have someone like Ryan Renyolds? Shame.

Basically, I didn't like this movie, but I am glad it made money. It means Magneto will be made, and that will hopefully be better. This film just PROVES that Bryan Singer needs to come back to the franchise, since his gay-crush on Superman did nothing but injure his career. After seeing Valkyrie, Singer needs to make the Magneto movie.

I didn't hate this movie...in fact, I enjoyed it.  But I don't follow Marvel comics, either, so I didn't catch that they majorly screwed around with Deadpool.  Or that Emma Frost's mutant powet was from a Grant Morrison-induced "secondary mutation".

The CGI was total weaksauce, too.  The most glaring was the Sabertooth bounding around crap and the scene in the old people's bathroom where the claws kept loosing contact with his skin and shaking.
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

The claws were horrendous looking. I thought they would have fixed it from the leaked print copy. They didn't.

My office is now in a new multi-use development (condos, offices, stores, etc.) with a Studio Movie Grill right next door.  I'm taking a 1/2 day for Harry Potter since Eddie couldn't care less - no weekday matinees yet since school isn't out or I'd have hit ST.  Think we'll finally get to see it this weekend - still on IMAX here.

I forgot about HP.  When's that shit coming out?

As for Wolverine, I'll do you one better and wait for the broadcast TV premiere.  Or hell, I'll wait for one of the Spanish stations to air it.  Pfft!  Fuck a Wolverine.  I'm with you on all of these mutants.  I can't stand it when a show or movie or whatever has to cram thirty thousand characters in it.  Everytime they showed another mutant, I can only imagine the other mutants that were supposed to be starring in the damn picture looked that less special.  What about some fucking humans?  That'd be nice to have.

Friday, July 17 for Half-Blood Prince.

You think they would have learned about a chorus line of bungee mutants in X3, which seems to be everyone's least favorite.  That's a shame considering how perfectly Kelsey Grammer nailed his role.

Deadpool is a human.

I meant as in putting more humans in the picture and less mutants.

Did he really?  But did they give him the cat-face or something?

Looks like they changed it in April.  Maybe WB will get around to updating their "official" website someday - that's where I got the 17th from.  I'm still going on Friday - a Wednesday afternoon off is useless.

No cat-face at all (still a sore point with me in the comics).  He was the high point of the movie, and I never cared about KG one way or t'other.

Awful film.

Any list of smaller than say.. 20 of the stupidest things to have ever been presented in a feature film to the public eye that does NOT include "Ryan Reynolds cutting a bullet in half in mid-air so that it bisects into two hapless opponents behind him" on said list.. is NOT a good list. This film was downright disrespectful to everything it related to.

I also wish to remind everyone that Wolverine made more money in its opening fucking weekend than Watchmen did in its entire god damn run. There is nothing funny about that.

That's like tearing down a Chik-fil-a to build a Taco Bell in that spot.

Not really.

I'm still holding out for a Cyclops movie, though. He'll wake up and the third movie will be a dream and Logan left forever, and Cyclops will lead an assault on the Hellfire club and fall in love with Misty Night and Coleen Wing (hot interracial threeway in the unrated collection) followed by him decaptiating Magneto with a FUCKWIN EYELAZER!!!1 and kicking Professor X in his baldass head.

I've never had a bad meal at Taco Bell. If anything they've gotten better with the 'fresco' menu. I just love pico de gallo.

I think they just have Taco Bells in Texas to ease newcomers into the transition.  After a while, they go to the same taquerias with real food like the rest of us.

I got my fill of Taco Bell during The Phantom Menance. If I never go back, that's just fine with me. There are a lot better Mexican places I could go.

Well it's fast food. If you want a good burger, you don't go to McDs.

Has anyone had Chipotle?

Chipotle is pretty good - love the cilantro-lime rice.  The do fresh lime in the guac as well.  Anything purporting to be Mexican food needs limes somewhere.

I figured out the CG was shit when I saw Wolverine first looking at his shiny metal blades in the farmhouse... they looked so fake it was like they used MS paint to put them in.

And am I wrong, or was Deadpool the guy with the swords? Wasn't he the loudmouth shit in Blade 3? If so, that guy needs to stop being typecast as annoying loudmouth swordsmen, because it's not working for him.

Things that bugged me about this film, despite the shitty cg and sword dick:

- Gambit. Why the hell has no one mentione gambit here? He had no screen time, and only throws cards for like 5 fucking seconds. That guy should have been running around blowing shit up with a deck of cards through half the movie, and he gets pushed aside for weaker sauce mutants.
- Xavier. He can walk?! And I guess it was the makeup to make him look younger, but Patrick Stewart looked like shit. And what the hell's with the Airwolf helecopter in the background? @_@
- Wolvie and Saber's age. They were born in the 19th century? While plausable due to their regeneration, is this even canon? Was them being brothers even canon?
- I say it again, Gambit needed more screen time, and more card asskicking. Poor guy's a regular on the comic book x-team, gets 10 minutes in the movies.

Check this out, there's a listing for a Deadpool movie. God help us.
