So I'm reading more movie spoilers...
« on: Oct 28, 2004, 02:39:11 AM »
...at that site where I found the US Grudge spoilers.  Here are the spoilers for the remake (and subsequently the original film) of the Manchurian Candidate, which I'm sure no one will care that I post anyway, so I will:

http://www.themoviespoiler.com/Spoilers/manchurian.html

If anyone has seen the original, this is just weak.  The "love interest" was never explained in the original, leaving fun and speculation.  In the remake, the love interest is a secret service agent.  FTW?

The original never had the Raymond Shaw character as a presidential candidate.  The mother's husband, his step-father, who was the senator, wanted to be president.

At the end of the remake, the Marco character (Denzel) tries to shoot Raymond Shaw.  I understand changing things in a remake but this is just dumb.  The whole idea is that Marco's mind control effects didn't take or are wearing off.  He's not in the loop of the mental commands, and this is what prompts his investigation in the first place.  I don't get what kind of plot device could be contrived that would make him an assassin.

Quote
Marco is off the hook as the Secret Service ascribes the assassination to a international terrorist with ties to Manchurian Global.
In the original it was just China being bitches but here they've made it a corporation or something, which could've worked if they used it right.

Quote
The final scene shows Rosie (love interest), Marco, and military authorities at the place of the makeshift military hospital. The lid has been blown off Manchurian Global's secret operation and the people related to it. Marco is vindicated.
In the original, Raymond Shaw, driven by insanity/anger/something, he assassinates his own mother (Angela Lansbury! Take that Mrs. Potts!) and step-father at a party convention as Marco (Frank Sinatra) watches in horror.  Then I think he kills himself in front of Marco.  I could be wrong, it's been a while.  The point is the remake sucks.  I had wanted to see this movie when it came out but I'm glad I didn't.  There is no vindication.  Vindication is so happily-ever-after.

There are spoilers for "The Passion of the Christ".  I wonder how that ends.

You know there's a book coming out?  That seems redundant.  :P

Yeah, I read the Sharktale one, too.  As well as Gothika.  Thank God I found that site, now I'll be saved from sitting through so many movies.  Sharktale looked stupid, but that's probably because Will Smith, Jack Black, and Rene Zell-whatever get on my nerves.  Angelina Jolie Lola-fish can't save that one.

Gothika was quite good.
I met the guy who played the bad guy in it. True story. Earlier this year. April.....I think
I was in the Chicago Midway airport heading toward my connecting flight to take to Indianapolis. When I was stepping onto the moving walkway he was stepping off, to my left. He was wearing a big hat and he looked pretty pissed. I stumbled and pointed around all confusedly until I worked up the attention to spout "Uh.. dih.....famous!" when he was already about five feet past me.
He turned around confused and perhaps slightly weirded out by my nonsensical comment that sounded as though it was directed at him, although when he fully realized the situation he stopped his rushing pace and smiled. I figured I should go with the funny thing and "Not enough for me to rember your name, but the face is.. there. You're in movies." Laughing, he said "Well, I must be doing something right, then," and started to loosen up a little. I guess it's refreshing to have a total idiot recognize you instead of a half-hearted movie-goer with a good memory.   He sort of stood there chuckling lightly before walking off presumably to catch his plane and tossing me a "Take it easy" when all I could muster was "I will"

It's the only time that I've really interacted with a celebrity in my life and I hope I'm not such a goofy dipshit every time I do in the future.  What if it's like, Alisha Keys?  :(

Your story reminded of an anecdote told by Kathy Griffin in her D-List special on Bravo.  "I smiled at him and he smiled at me.  And it was Elvis.  And I fucked him."  I got it all wrong, but it's still funny to me.  You'd have to have seen it to get it I guess.
