He came in to the restaurant I spend the vast majority of my time at for dinner. My boss's fiancee's family is good friends with the Bidens so I'm sure they're friends with other political families. They must have known him because she and her mother were talking to him about her little sister and how she got onto Homecoming court last year.
Anyways, we found out about an hour before he was supposed to come in, and we all started freaking out. Yea, he's like so four years ago, but whatever! It's not often that we get presidential candidates eating our food (Obama did order food to go from us last spring, but didn't order anything on the menu. His wife Michelle was supposed to eat dinner one night but was held up late) I was talking to a table of mine about him coming there when I saw him walk into the bar and I said, "OMG THERE HE IS!" He's much taller in person and has a lot more white hair than he used to. I shook his hand and told him that I had voted for him in '04, he laughed and said, "This is a smart girl!" He then patted me on the back and when I sort of hugged him back, I think I felt a gun or some sort of weird device on his side.
So yea, that was my somewhat exciting night. My friend actually got to wait on him, but I was glad to not have that kind of pressure (even though they were the only table there at the time). Next time someone asks me about our shrimp and scallops over risotto I'll tell them that John Kerry ate it and loved it. They may affect my tips in either a negative or positive way though. It's kind of funny that he showed up because my boyfriend and a bandmate were playing an acoustic set at a local college for a rally for Obama, and he told me that Kerry wasn't even there.
I think that if John McCain called to eat dinner there, we'd probably tell him that we're closed.
