Completing a trifecta
« on: Aug 20, 2008, 01:59:54 AM »
http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/Music/08/19/davematthews.band.death/index.html

I don't think any of you are DMB fans, but it's sad to lose such a great musician.  They still played their show tonight just hours after hearing the news, I'm sure he would have wanted them to.   :'(

Well, he was black. He fits the criteria, I guess.
10,000 steps down, round and round. One night on the town and I'm hellbound ... Black oceans beneath, come and swallow me. My little tower, seal my fate. Help me pay back, end their hate. Black oceans beneath, come and swallow me

I thought about the wierd violinist.

I never liked the Dave Matthews Band, so this doesn't affect me.

*rocks out to his new Toadies CD*

Are you that detached from music you have not heard their live CD released last year and their new album that came out yesterday? The iTunes release has a bonus track.

He's not detached he's just realized that Dave Mathews is about as relevant as burkenstocks and striped shirts.

I think he was talking about Toadies. Who are even less relevant, but "I Burn" is still a kick ass song.

They've had so many relevant hits.

Possum Kingdom, Away, Tyler, Push the Hand, and now No Deliverance.

Plus, you knew who they were.

Plus they're real Texas boys, unlike Dubya.   :P  As far as airplay songs go, I like I Come From The Water, but Tyler and Possum Kingdom are in a dead heat for freaky backstories.

The only name I recognize mentioned in this whole thread is Dubya, so I dispute the realization of the three dead celebrity cliche.
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I'm just saying that the saxophone player from one of the most successful bands of all time died.  But most of their success is from touring every single summer and playing a lot of two or three-day concerts for college kids and burnt out hippies.  My boyfriend being a little bit of both (he went to his 29/30th show last month, but Leroi obviously wasn't playing).
The wife forgave the mistress for she only entertained.

Yeah, I never got into Dave Matthews... sucks he died though and yet Brett Michaels and FloRida still run around.

Eddie & I went to see Toadies with the Butthole Surfers & Rev. Horton Heat ages ago - good show, with everything on time.  Hoping for the same when we see Judas Priest on Saturday.  Looks like they'll go on third so we can skip the two openers and leave before Motorhead.  ;D

Nothing, NOTHING was worse than seeing Glenn Danzig looking like a fat Gallagher without his cap about 6 years ago.  I thought Eddie was going to cry.

Out of that list I'd only say Possum Kingdom was a hit. It topped out at #9 on the charts. While Away and Push the hand charted they didn't break the top twenty.

And besides using a guy who also knows who Dschinghis Khan is as your proof of Hit powet is shakey ground.

The common guy off the street might vaguely remember the song Possum Kingdom (more the song, not the title) if they were a full of angst teen in the 90s, I doubt they'd know much more about Toadies. Hell Oasis blows the Toadies away in sheer hit powet, but I still have to endure "Oh yeah...I liked Wonderwall." all the time. I love the band, but I don't try to pretend they were more then what they were. A UK britpop band riding the wave, who has now lost all relevance in the US.

They'll always get regular airplay here because they're from Fort Worth.

I like to go down to the playground and watch the kids run and jump and scream, because they don't know I'm only using blanks.

So is Oasis. Maybe not on a station you listen too..but Toadies arn't played ones I listen too so it goes both way.

Oh and "Some Might Say" is confirmed playable song on Guitar Hero World Tour...so they arn't left out there either. And their new album drops in Oct.

The bass line from that song is one of the few things I remember how to play on the guitar.
