Ok, I'll back down from avatar size, but I'm still going to have my say about signatures.

For one, both of those images were sized down using photoshop 8, I guess I could have sized them down more but was too lazy to.

For another thing, image size != number of characters in sig, and neither does number of images. I could have a huge sig that fills up half my post with only 50 characters. In my (old) sig, the html link takes up most of the space. "John Kerry is a douche bag but I'll vote for him anyway" is probably around 100 characters there.

I don't want longer sigs for lots of large images but for one or two small ones and more "text".
