I think they were going for the "he can have any woman in the world with his looks and money, but she's the only one who will ever truly KNOW him...." sentimental angle.   ::) Harvey is drawn to her intellect and sense of fair play.  Or whatever.  I'm not real fond of characters dreamed up for film adaptations as plot devices.

Yeah, at least kill off a character from the comics.  Bruce is a playboy, right?  There must've been a ton of beds they could've adapted for the movie.

I was talking about this movie again the other day and thinking I'd've rather had Jake in a dress than Maggie.

I saw Pineapple Express today in the theater today.  My friend wanted to go to the 10:45 showing because two of her boyfriend's friends worked until 10, but my boyfriend wanted to go earlier and I didn't want to sit around all night.  It was super funny, if you're into stoner comedy (but with action!).  I wasn't bummed about spending money on it (actually, the boy bought the tickets and I bought snacks) and I'll definitely buy it on DVD.
The wife forgave the mistress for she only entertained.

I finally saw Dark Knight.

My friend noted the one thing that bugged him most about the movie was Dent's voice after his face was horribly disfigured. He said that with such a large hole in the side of his mouth he would have trouble making certain sounds, yet Dent had a flawless voice.

My complaints are small for the most part. I remember Gotham being much grittier in the first movie, the city itself seemed to be rather futuristic in places, like with the monorail where the final fight took place, and then areas like where Arkham was located with low brick buildings and slums. This movie was filmed almost entirely in Chicago and Hong Kong with shiny modern buildings all over.

There were times where I had trouble believing that the Joker, just being one man, could pull off all that destruction and stuff that was going on, but I assume that he had mob backing as well as help from police and government officials that were employed by the mob.

I'm still amazed that, when the Joker walked into the mob meeting and offered to kill Batman that they didn't all pull out guns and shoot him for stealing some of their money. The Mob not packing heat? Inconceivable!

And I was rooting for Batman to actually run the Joker over with his bike. Yes, it would have ended the movie rather quickly. But it goes back to my little rant about how movie heroes are becoming less and less likely to kill. Yes, the Batman's policy of not killing his enemies goes back to the original comics, and they were trying to show that Batman's different from the Joker because he doesn't take life. But hell, forget the bike, I would have flattened the Joker with a semi. This high moral ground that heros show about never killing is a bit unrealistic. In America we hold parades for soldiers who kill terrorists, and no one gives a crap that the soldier may have killed 20 or 30 terrorists, because they did it in the name of good. Hell, even the terrorists don't care, they're all like "He has died for Allah and now has 40 virgins in heaven!"

Edit: Oh, and I smell a sequel. No way they won't make another Batman after making him an outlaw.

Your arguments are retarded (Batman doesn't kill people. The mob DID want to kill the joker he had a bomb strapped to himself, but you forgot that didn't you.) except for maybe the city looking weird and Harvey's voice.  One thing that made absolutely no sense was the burning of the money.  Those thugs wouldn't have turned on the russian and allowed the joker to burn all that money.  The whole purpose of the mob is to get money that doesn't belong to them.  Some people at squirrel's board have conjectured that the reason the city wasn't so dark was because crime had been on the decline.

Nice try detective, but the real answer is "No way they won't make another Batman after this one made so much money".

That was Joker's money. It was his "Half" that he negoatied out of the mob earlier on the in the flick. He didn't burn the mob's money, he burnt his own. But he didn't care...like he said. It wasn't about the money. I'm sure all of those guys where Jokers guys. Who knows their motives for following him, but I'd say Money wasn't it since hardly any of his schemes got him money, other then bank job at the first (which he killed all those guys) and the half he got from the mob (which he burned.)

I don't think that was just his half, that's what the russian was pissed about.  And those guys were definitely not portrayed as the joker's men.  It seemed that they were the russian's men and they betrayed him.  I'd have to watch it again to be sure but I think you're wrong.

Yeah, I assumed by "his half" he meant the physical half on one side of that money pyramid, nevermind that the whole pyramid would go up in flames and burn all the money.  That's why I figured that guy was spazzing out.  Why should he freak out otherwise if his money is fine and dandy elsewhere?

I think D means before the Joker revealed he had a bomb.  As in why didn't the mob blast him away the minute he showed his face instead of giving him a chance to speak.  But that would've also been a shorter movie.

Well I assumed it his half as I remember it was a HUGE amount of money  that they were talking about. And I don't think it'd have to be his money for him to be pissed. He just gave this guy half his cash and all he did was burn it. That's enough to be pissed about I think, because he could have just kept it.

And even if they were the russians guys they had clearly made a deal with the Joker at some point. They were there before the Russian arrived and thus were with Joker. Again I don't know their motive...maybe the thought of being under Joker when he took over the Mob and all the perks there in.

I got the impression Joker already spent the money he stole at the start. He at least paid of the suit he had with it...unless he was lying about that. Although I doubt one suit cost as much as he stole, but it does explain how he paid for all his fancy bombs and what not that he had. So even if they had killed him they wouldn't have been able to track it down. It was more then likely gone at that point.

And also I would think at Mob meeting of these many important heads of the family, guns wouldn't be allowed. It's a pretty common pratice so no one gets any ideas about offing the rest of them and taking over their territories. Thus no one having them. So I didn't find that odd at all. They did try to physically assualt him, but that just ended up with one guy having  pencil up his nose. The guys at the door more then likely had guns, but if Joker got in...those guys are dead anyway.

Why would he present them with the oriental guy on top of only his half of the money?  I don't believe in this pile of offscreen phantom money.  They would've shown him with his half at some point.

I don't think he was presenting him too them as much as he was just going to kill him and letting him go up in flames with the cash was just a very over the top Joker way of doing it.

Maybe it was all the money, but that just furthers the idea that they weren't following Joker for the money.

Yeah, lots of little nuances in there.  I liked the way Ledger kept throwing in the facial tics and worrying at the corners of his mouth with his tongue.  One would be working one's face/mouth in odd ways while recovering from the type of cuts he had to the point that they would become habits by the time they had completely healed.

Well, I forgot about the explosives, but if you pay attention, the explosives he did have on him were nothing more than a bunch of gernades with strings tied to the pins, so that if he pulled the strings, the gernades would be activated. But it would be very easy for someone to just shoot him in the head and kill him instantly (which is why he should have had some kind of trigger he had to hold down constantly, the instant he lets go it goes off). I think Rama's right in saying they didn't have guns in the first place.

As for the pile of money, it WAS the Joker's half of the mob money. But since all mobsters are pretty greedy and obsessed with money, seeing any money get destroyed, even if it's not your own, would probably piss them off. Well, unless it's the money of your biggest enemy or something, but you'd still want it for yourself.

It WAS not just the joker's half.  I'm going to find the script and when I do...

IN YOUR FACE! IN ALL OF YOUR FACES!  I'm going to do the pose like that long armed mutant in your av (who by the way weighs 30 lbs less than me and can't kick my ass).

Also, if you have your hand around a string and you get shot in the head theres no guarantee you won't just pull the string when you're shot.  How many times in movies has the guy with his hand on the detonator been shot?  I think I saw it once but I might be wrong.

"Why didn't they whip out all their guns and shoot him?"  Because it'd have been a short-ass movie, and most of them were intrigued by the prospect of killing Batman, even if they laughed it off to start with. And confidence in oneself doesn't manifest in shooting something or someone off-hand.

"Why did Harvey sound the same?"  Because had they gone for half-a-mouth realism there, you likely wouldn't have understood a word he said.

Frankly it was hard enough understanding a laryngitisy Bale as Batman without giving Hole-in-the-face a speech impediment as well.  Oh shoot, and Alfred.  I mean accents usually aren't that hard for me, but for whatever reason, I understood almost nothing he was saying.  And also, weirdly enough, I wanted to switch to Geico.

Maybe we're just spoiled...Kevin Conroy was the epitome of the sort of voice inflection that differentiates Bruce and Bats while still sounding natural as both.

You know I just remembered that Joker wanted the Russian to tell his men that he worked for him now in that scene. He refused and he ordered the guys to feed him to his own dogs. Now I don't know why you'd have to get him to tell the guys to follow his orders if they were going to do it anyway....unless of course those were not the Russians men and working for the Joker.

So the Russian (a mob boss) was travelling around with people he hadn't known all his crime career to protect him? Because mob bosses are notoriously trustworthy of henchmen that they don't know?  They were at one time working for the russian and then for no other reason than furthering the plot they decided they're not in this for the money anymore! They're CRAZZZEEE and wanna laugh and wear neon and dance around under black lights with glowstick nunchucks.
