So in the past few weeks, I have actually paid to go to a theater to see WALL-E and The Dark Knight. Both are totally worth paying for, mainly because they're the kind of movies you should see on a big screen.
WALL-E was adorable, but not too childish. I think there were more adults in the theater when we went than kids. Which was great because kids ruin everything. It also had a great underlying message about us becoming fat slobs if we were to live in space. Here, I thought the space cruise ships would be like the colonies in Gundam Wing where they recreated a whole city, but they're more like mega shopping centers. The animation in this movie is incredible, you almost can't tell that it's all CG.
The Dark Knight was incredible! Everything that has been said about Heath Ledger's take on the Joker was correct. I couldn't even recognize him. Heath wasn't the only good actor - Christian Bale and that guy from "Thank You for Smoking" were also amazing. The whole movie was pretty much flawless and scary without being gorey. I'm not a prude, but I'm sick of movies that disembowel people in every scene to scare audiences. There was very little blood and I don't think I heard a single curse word, but that's what made it awesome.
If Heath Ledger gets nominated for an Oscar (which he probably will) and wins, I hope it's because of his role rather than him being dead. Though I think somebody's going to have to pull out one hell of a performance to beat the Joker.
Movies Not Worth Paying For: The Love Guru - I saw about 15 minutes of this on SideReel and stopped. I probably would have demanded my money back if I went to a theater, although it's not the theater's fault.
