Apparently bad luck follows me in spades. Either that or God's telling me to get the hell out of my job.


Last night one of the other drivers had one last run which was acually supposed to be my delivery, but I told her to take it instead. Either she came back or didn't take it at all because it seemed too suspicious. So my manager tells me to jump into a coworker's van and I'd be his backup in case something happened.

The instant we got there I thought something was very suspicious. The people were acting wierd. I stayed in the van hidden. I watched the driver disappear behind a truck with the food, and then a minute later return and start walking back towards the van.

I thought everything was cool until I saw the three black guys who had ordered the food come running up behind him and try to grab him. He shook them off and ran for the van and was able to get into the van while fighting them off and drive away, all while I was on the phone with police.


I told the assistant manager I hated working the job and he told me to leave, and I told him "fine, see you later asshole."

I'm sick of hearing about delivery robberies every single damn week and all of them by young black men under 30.

And yes, I have been looking for a job, just not very hard. I've had three places tell me they weren't hiring and actually were cutting back hours for their employees.

Well, I was re-hired for all of one delivery run. The head manager and district manager was willing to let me keep on working for a while at least, and I would work until I found new employment. But it seems the head honcho himself, the head of the entire company (and all of it's 20 or so stores), says he wants to talk to the DM and store manager to discuss whether I'll be re-hired or not. Odd that the owner of the company would trouble himself with such a situation but I think I kinda know why. I think a part of it may be that car accident I had a while back, but I think there's other factors involved as well.

Department of Labor Chief, how much progress have you made in the procurement of new employment?

DOL: Well D, we have one man who said he's looking for some new employees and will be conducting interviews next week. I'll be meeting with him tomorrow to secure an application, as he had none today.

D:
Excellent. Department of War, have you captured the mugging suspects?

DOW: No, but we have the bastards on the run, it won't be too long before we have them strung up by their testicles.

D: Excellent. All right men, you know what you have to do. I want us to meet tomorrow at the same time for an update.

When I was in college, the local pizza places quit delivering to certain dorms when delivery guys kept getting Clorox and piss poured on them when they walked up.  So it baffles me that this is such a problem for the asshats you work for to comprehend and do something about.

Then again, maybe they see you as expendable.

I just checked local news to see if I was in the news or not, and found out a driver from another store from the same company was shot to death during a robbery. Apparently I left at the right time.

Just read in the newspaper, two of the guys were caught! Turns out the dumbasses used their own cell phone number to place the call. The cops traced it and arrested them.

Which makes me wonder why they didn't do the same thing with my other case, since I had the robber's number on my cell phone.

Man. I hate to say this, but I have to agree with D on one thing.
Black people always seem to be the one's who give out the most trouble. In my case, Big Black Women. SO full of attitude!

E: I, and dozens and dozens of studies, talkshows, etc., do note that there's a bevy of underlying issues in the black community with jail time, unwed pregnancy, poverty, education, etc.  Hell, Latinos (since it's relevant to me and the city I live in) share many of the same problems.  I doubt anybody here disagrees that there are issues and unfortunate stereotypes that prove themselves repeatedly.  D does not need to run this home over and over again.  All he talks about is getting robbed by black people (or harassed by Christians) and then he lathers, rinses, and repeats.  It's like watching someone bang their head in a wall every week and cry about it.  Enough, already.

And the connection they found was that high crime followed Section 8 housing out of the city and into the suburbs... wherever there's cheap and subsidized housing, there's lots of crime.

Of course, I didn't need a magazine to tell me that. All the messed up neighborhoods in this suburban area is in townhouses and neighborhoods that either have low rent or accept Section 8 vouchers.

I am in a tough spot now..

I'm not going to have enough money to survive more than a month or two, so I'm hoping I can either get on unemployment or food stamps or both.

I COULD try to get the job back, but I don't even want to go back. I read about delivery guys being mugged and beaten and put in the hospital for a week for their money and I could be the next one beaten up. Screw that.

The job market is shit. It may take forever to find another job with the economy as crappy as it is, and the auto industry laying off everyone because it still focuses on SUVs and trucks even though the SUV market is rapidly shrinking, while the small car market is exploding at a supersonic rate, so if the big 3 had any brains at all they would shift their workers around to make more small cars.






And a stimulus chell would be nice right now but apparently people have said I don't get one because I don't make enough. Wait a sec... while I worked I made minimum wage... $7.50, and about $1200 a month. Now I'm unemployed. I don't make ENOUGH? What, do I have to make $50,000+ a year to get a fucking chell? I'm POOR, I should automatically get money from the government. I was the backbone of the nation, without me the fat rich fucks that run the country wouldn't get their pizza in 30 minutes. I better get a chell or It'll give me proof that Bush is evil and is only giving checks out to his buddies in the upper middle class and rich. Once again the rich rule the world and make the poor suffer.

Four points:

1) If they could make enough of the cars that are in demand, they would, but changing everything over to producing more smaller cars can not and will not happen overnight.  It's why there's a nationwide shortage of new and used economical vehicles these days. 

2) $7.50 is not minimum wage. 

3) You don't get much back because you don't put much in.

4) Rich people don't order pizza.

Dunno if I mentioned this, but I missed the stimulus check by, like, 150 bucks.  I make a little more than Doug does per hour, worked less than ten hours a week during the spring and fall, and a few days a summer.  I understand taking it easy and all if you're a student but for all of his money woes, someone didn't work enough.

But I'm worried shitless about running out of money. I have to pay rent here. I doubt I have a family member who could take me in. I went so far as to apply for food stamps, and the line was around the damn block, which is a very bad sign of the times. I'm also going to look into unemployment, but I was denied last time I lost my job, and I don't have a lot of hope this time.

It sucks this whole shitty economy is so bad that in order to keep myself homeless I'd have to go back to a job I hate and could get beaten or killed in. To fuck with Bush, to fuck with the Feds, to fuck with the state, and to fuck with all the greedy companies and rich overlords who put us in this recession in the first place. I hope you all catch the black death and die in pain.

No kidding.  For independent people who don't make much/any, getting a Pell grant should be no problem, and you should chell into a WIA grant from the employment service (if they offer it in your state...dunno how shitty your state is, but MS does).  Barring those, do like lots of others do: take a loan.
