That commercial is on during every damn AS show after midnight. I hate the woman crawling down the stairs.
Nuri, do you get that gawd-awful Emergency Alert System thing that makes the electronic screeches & resets all the channels to the Weather Channel for a few seconds after it's done? What the hell happened to the soothing voice intoning "This is only a test" followed by the little high-pitched tone?
I actually did myself one worst and found a bunch of summaries on the Japanese television and theatrical movies that the American Grudge is based on. I don't know why I have to succumb to temptation like that. Creepy shit.
I get the noise thing but not the Weather Channel reset. I really should've posted this at the Brats board but it just slipped my mind. You're gonna love this. So it's after the first showing of Wolf's Rain a few Saturdays back and Merla and I are all "okay, so now what do we watch?" I changed the channel to HGTV and found myself watching Designer Finals. Less than ten minutes in that horrid electronic screech comes on accomplanied by a male voice. It completely drowns out the sound (and lucky me is watching on a TV with no captioning option).
This isn't the first time it's happened and the male voice will say "This is an emergency, yadda, yadda,.... please turn to channel 20... blah blah". It always wants me to turn to channel 20, which is the public access channel here in San Antonio. I don't know why they don't have me turn to 19 or 21, which are used for nil at this time of night. Sometimes I'll turn to it, and they'll be nothing there. Or sometimes it'll just have in type whatever the stupid man already said to me that made me turn to the channel in the first place. It's starting to piss me off because this is like abuse of the system. If you're gonna buzz a damn noise at me and drown out my show, especially at this hour, there better be missiles decimating the Alamo over a toppled Tower of the Americas.
So I change it to see if maybe something is actually there this time and in white type (over some poor idiot's public access show) is AMBER ALERT blah blah blah. They put out a damn Green Ambler Alert at fifteen minutes past midnight. I'd get doing this on the radio or later in the morning on TV when people are about to head out of their homes but on TV at that hour? When it's late and dark and most decent people are home for the day by then or out doing something completely non television-related that they miss the thing entirely? Are the people in the bars watching TV gonna switch over the channel? Would they even hear it? Yeah, we're gonna see these abducted kids really well in the freaking dark. And what's more, the actual abduction or whatever didn't even take place in our county. And kids get nabbed everyday so why is this suddenly different? Are these kids gold-plated or diamond-encrusted that their nabbing (most likely from a disgruntal relative anyway) gets this kind of precedence? What a freaking abuse of the system.
