Oh, yeah, my weekend

We bought a new monitor and keyboard because my mom thought the monitor was fried, turns out it was, but the computer also decided there was no such thing as a primary or secondary master.  We took it into the shop, and the only way I'm going to get all my files back (read: roms and pr0n) is to take it to one of those fun computer forensics places, of course, it will be my parents doing it, because the first few chapters of my dad's back on the Sudanese refugees is also witheld in that box with no moving arm.

DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN

But we did get a new hardrive that's three times the size of the last, huuray!

At least you have that.  A few weeks back I thought my computer had died on me again and I was ready to cry because I had a whole new chapter of my story I had stayed up all night to write that I had planned to back up the next day.  Turns out it was just a little loose inside and is fine, so now when I write out a new chapter or segment, I back it up at least once if not twice.

How much will it cost to get your information back?

I don't even know.  The guy at the shop said 'An arm and a leg,' so I'm thinking it's somewhere between brake job and new car smell.

I too learned to do double backups the hard way, Nuri.  :(  Also to mail myself something if I didn't want to save it on the hard drive so I could retrieve it in another format & continue in case the Mac crapped out, leaving me with a PC, or vice versa.

Yeah, when I first got my HP it ended up having to be carted off back to manufacturer, and I lost my entire HD of data (a lot of which was either uploaded on my site or backed up, so I didn't actually lose that much).  Ever since then, I make a CD of my HD about once a month.

That Mac/PC stuff is bitch though.  What gets me is that Merla and I both use the same version of Windows but Merla has Word and I have Word Perfect, making me resort to Wordpad in order to have anything to work with should my computer crap out.
