You want it to be obvious that you like them. And you should be a little demanding in a non chalant manner. "Gimme your number" is simple and it works. You can use your japanese stuff as an in and even play the study card. But I wouldn't do that "your place or mine" line in person. That's like a level 5 spell that has to be uttered with just the right intonation or else it's gonna blow up in your face for 5d6 damage.

おげんきですか。(ogenki desu ka - how are you?)
(same person claims it's お元気ですか。, but yet again the person uses kanji when I don't know it yet. Kanji may be the way the japanese technically do it but I can still do it in Hiragana as well, I doubt some Jap will slice off my balls for using all kana.)

Oh and おげんきですか　should probably be translated to "Are you well/healthy?"

Ok, I'm curious to why you end the konbanwa with the ha （は）symbol and not the wa (わ）symbol?

Well, the "how　are you" bit I got from a handout from the teacher.

I never heard "ikaga desu ka" in any of my Japanese classes, either.

But, I've heard a Japanese acquaintance use it. Also, I've heard a Japanese seiyuu use it, as well as an employee at a Japanese grocery store.

"Genki," a "-na adjective," means like... "health(y); robust; vigor; vigour; energy; vitality; vim; stamina; spirit; courage; pep;" according to that online dictionary. If someone asks you "Genki desu ka" you can reply with a "hai" or an "iie." You can say something like "Hai, genki desu" or "Iie, genki ja arimasen" or "Iie, genki ja nai desu." I guess your teacher kinda simplified the translation a bit...
But "ikaga desu ka" is not a yes or no question, fyi.

Konbanwa and konnichiwa end with the "ha" symbol because they're some of Japanese's odd quirks. It's similar (or exactly the same as) "Watashi wa Rampage desu" using the "ha" symbol, but being pronounced "wa."
