Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007
« on: Sep 02, 2007, 03:19:47 PM »
I bought this a while back.  (Actually one of those deals where you get a license for cheap through the school, anyway....)

I wanted Microsoft Office, and the guy that sells the software on campus asked if I wanted to go with the newer one.  Not thinking and seeing that it was the same price, I said yes and bought it.  I was prepared for the possibility that my computer wouldn't be able to run the applications very well because the machine's kinda old and I haven't updated much of anything hardware-wise on it.  But damn, I didn't expect Word to look so... ugly.  Ugly.  Bitch ugly.

This brings back flashbacks of the latest version of Windows Media Player.  Now Media Player and I have since made our peace and I been using it quite often.  In fact, I'm going to update WMP on Merla's new laptop (she still has 10 on it) as soon as I'm able, because I'm used to new WMP now.  Also, I think various updates have resolved a few of the old issues.  Like WMP keeps the last files I was playing in the playlist now.

I imagine I'll have the same feelings about Word several months down the road.  From what I saw of it, besides the pretty bubble-thing Windows does with all of its updated shit now, it's not very nice looking.  Primarily because it has a bunch of weird buttons and "short cuts" hanging around the top, and I'm a minimalist and I liked the look of the old Word better.  And the menus on the new one looked odd and not in the normal spot with other Office applications in the past.  While I'm certain there has to be a way to rid myself of the clutter, I decided not to keep the program on my computer long enough to find out.  I'm still looking for Mr. Right Laptop, and once I find him I'll put my new Office crap on that one.

Anyone else use Office 2007?  Or hell, even Vista.  I got to play around with Vista a bit when I went laptop scouting.  I think it'll just take some getting used to really.

I'm certain I'll get used to it, but I get jolted by change.  And I still think it looks kinda ugly.

Some of our school computers are using it. GAH! WTF! @_@
I like to go down to the playground and watch the kids run and jump and scream, because they don't know I'm only using blanks.

Modern anime is a stagnant cesspool of regurgitated ideas.

I've decided to stuff the pens in my clevage until I reach a better solution.

Semi-OT, I've been upping my search for a laptop so I can do my homework and use this Office majigger on it.  I've relaxed my standards for this purpose, searching for something around or under the 14" mark that's relatively light in weight and has a good amount of memory for under the collective budget of 900.  I almost reneged on my Dell boycott tonight and bought a Dell (it was a really cute one, too!) but damn those fuckers know how to piss me off.  I may try it again tomorrow, because I'm kinda in love with that Dell.  But I'm also thinking I should just keep an eye on the Sunday ads and look at brick and mortar stores for deals.  I'll probably blog about the whole incident uselessly later, so no bother going into it now.  Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions or recommendations, feel free to chime that shit on in.
