It was generally uneventful except for the rain Thursday resulting in over 80 road closures Friday morning and a very angry, stressful Merla ready to rip out of her hair as we plodded through traffic. I bought myself about fifty bucks of art supplies for my birthday on Thursday also, though I wanted a huge handful of non-photo blue pencils and had to settle for a mere five. I lucked out and went early like my gut wanted me to, because I got home and just missed being drenched up to my ass in rainwater. And I went to mandatory job training for two days.
I'm thinking of getting a new job myself. (Incidentally, I visited one of my old bosses on campus and everytime I see the man, he always tries to worm the idea of returning to the bookstore in my head.

) The job I have now is an ideal student job that pays decently and works with my schedule. I've been doing this about a year now and unfortunately, every semester, I find it getting more stale. The main boss lady and one of my other bosses are pretty cool, decent ppl, as are a bunch of coworkers. And the newbies are awesome because they're so enthusiastic and uncorrupted.
But some of these people (co-workers, superiors, etc.) act soooo uber-excited like this job's the best fucking job in the world that disbelief becomes magically suspended to the point it's permanently levitating in the sky. A couple of people in particular were especially vile and bitchy, and I'm theorizing both of them were PMSing at the same time. One of them just wouldn't shut-up and at one point kept telling us she would report us if we misbehaved like we were all kids. Someone else even used the words "professional" and "aura" at one point when told to summarize our job description. Fucking "aura"! Or more hilariously, some of them act like they're the shit despite their role as "glorified student", which in a nutshell is all it really is.
We were lectured the other day for about a half an hour about a bunch of psychology bullshit (some of them being psych and bio majors, I think they nearly shoot out party streamers of cum when they talk about this crap) and they told us-- very seriously-- that they expected us to learn this shit. I don't mean semi-useful stuff like "make up creative anagrams to get your students to better memorize material", I mean "metacognition is the development of self-awareness and self-regulation that is critical to cognitive growth". Teh fuck. I swear I could see the looks of terror in some of the newbies' faces. I'm not a fucking psych major, dammit. Fuck off.
Each time they expected us to do some lame worksheet or something, I just fucked it off. "Take notes!" No, fuck off. If you want me to pay attention, try being more organized and interesting. So whenever they would ride me about it, I'd write down stuff like I was taking notes but I just wrote a bunch of nonsense words. And I would goof off with whoever happened to be next to me, which is a cue that things are bad because despite my obvious sourness in my internets life, I'm pretty damn quiet and cooperative irl when it comes to school, work, and 'serious' shit like that. I got a kick though when they'd get a little batshit when they realized I wasn't totally into what they were doing, like when kids play pretend and that one kid takes it waaaay too seriously and starts pouting about it.
And nobody, NOBODY, can make a good Powerpoint presentation to save their lives. It continually irks me. No more than six lines per slide, no more than six words per line, good contrasting colors for optimum visibility, and no reading off the damn presentation! It's annoying. I can't stand it when people stick all of their shit on their slides and read it to us. I can dl it and do that shit at home.
And good fuck, it's fucking sales tax-free weekend here.
