I don't think you read far enough. That's the one in which Lestat has a human body and boinks this chick named....Gretchen? It's been a while. He was all over Akasha in QOTD as well.
Well in IDE's defense Lestat did talk about boning that old man Talbot a lot at the first of that book, and at the end as well. I didn't read past Body Thief myself...expect my aforementioned attempt on Blackwood Farm.
I also think she broke her created reality in that book. I may actually be coining the phrase "Created Reality" here, but most people know what it is. In any piece of outlandish fiction (Sci-Fi, Horror, Fantasy.) there is a set of rules that even apply to that created world. Like in LOTR...you can have all powerful evil lord that exists as an all seeing eye, but you don't see Frodo eating a magic fruit that gives him wings so he can just fly to Mount Doom.
I think Thief broke that created reality that Rice had established in the first three books, by using a rather outlandish and unrelated story idea. It might have been good as a stand alone, but not as a VC book. Can't comment on any past that one though.
But we don't have to worry about her doing any of that anymore, she recanted her recanting of the Catholic church after her husband died and only writes books for the Lord now. No more Vampires.
