Rambo....was based on a novel?
« on: Apr 01, 2007, 03:20:10 AM »
Since I've started wirting on my own novel, I've paid more attention to the begining credits of movies to see if a movie is based on a book or not. Well a few days ago I ran on a guy that was selling off some of his DVD for 2 bucks each. Most weren't worth even the 2 bucks they wanted for them. It was a who's who of the Wal-Mart Bargin bin. Despite this there were a few winner among them. I ended up taking V for Vendetta, Reservoir Dogs, and First Blood. AKA: Rambo 1.

I hadn't seen First Blood since the 80's and so I popped it in first because out of all the movies I bought it was the one I had forgot the most about. So title credits start to roll and "Based on the Novel by David Morrell" and I was like What the Fuck...Rambo is a literary character?

So I did a little checking and indeed it was based on a book, of the same name. Published in 1972. They did end up changing the book a lot, making Rambo more the hero and the police the bad guys, unlike the book where the roles where reversed. Now the sequels First Blood 2 and Rambo 3 weren't based on any books. In fact Rambo may or may not have died in the book version. I havn't found that out yet. However, David Morrell did write the novelizations for both Rambo 2 and 3.

In sidenote, there was actually an alternate ending where Rambo was in fact killed  by Colonel Trautman. We could have had a world without Rambo 2,3, and the Upcoming Rambo 4. Go figure.

V For Vendetta for 2$? Shit...

Anyway I think your problem is that you're so desperate for a diversion from writting that you'll watch Rambo.

Eh I usually do that. I write a few pages, then step away and do something else. Play video games, watch a movie, (Just finished Life of Brian) and then come back to it. Keeps me from getting too bogged down by it and I'm still kicking out 3-4 pages a day that way.

And the first Rambo wasn't half bad. It's a much more serious film about a Vietnam vet suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, who is alienated from socitey by a America that hates the vets for just doing what they were ordered to, and he just snaps when a small town cop gives him a hard time. It made a lot of statements, and isn't nearly as camp as it's two sequels.

Isn't Rambo supposed to be going after terrorists in Afghanistan in 4?
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

No idea, but he fought the Soviets in Afghanistan in 3, so that would be a little redundant. Send him to South America to fight drug lords. He hasn't been there yet.

Drug lords are boring.  [Southern drawl]He needs to go to I-rack, that's wut.  Amerr-ca needs a heero ta su-port our troops.[/Southern drawl]

I really want to see new movies with Rambo, Die Hard's John McClaine, and Indy all compete in the same year.  The battle of the old guys!

Ha, I do that with homework.  Not a movie so much but an episode or something or I draw/write or go online.  I just don't have the attention span to go very long and not start day-dreaming or something.  With my writing, I open it up almost everytime I'm at my computer and add a piece or two to it.

Kinda sucks that won't happen. Live Free or Die Hard comes out this summer, Rambo 4 is in 2008 and they are just starting to shoot Indy 4 this summer, unless it got pushed back again for the four thousandth time.

Yeah. That's what happens to me too. If I don't step away from it when that happens it starts to effect my writing. Cause I'm forcing myself to sit there and do it, and it's never as good when I do that.

Talking about Rambo... I went to the restaurant that was used as "Adrian's" restaurant in the pic, and I got a poster from the movie, that Sylvestr himself gave to the manager! woohoo! so exciting

Fabio doesn't actually squeeze tits, he has a handler that does all the squeezing for him.

How do you think it got so silky and golden in the first place? He squeezes the boobs to extract the precious boob oil, then runs his oil-soaked hands through his hair for maximum Fabiage.

You'd know that if you were on his mailing list.
