Someone told me to chell this anime out called Emo..er.. Ergo Proxy. I downloaded the first episode but gave up after 5 minutes because the subtitles were in Korean. Do I look like I speak gook?

He says the anime's as good as Ghost in the Shell. I'd say it's like GitS with Amy Lee. The anime also ends with a song from Radiohead.

I need an english translation so I can be sure this isn't one giant bleeding wrist of an anime and is actually worth something.
Where are we going, and why am I in this handbasket?

When did anime become emo?  The same time they became compelled to have religious overtones I'd guess.

Personally I still want to play a game where I can beat up that whiny bitch Shinji.

Well, going from a Korean sub to a sub in badly translated english is somewhat of an improvement.

The story as I can figure it out is about this futuristic utopia, high-tech city where everything is peaceful, unless you're an immigrant, they seem to be treated like inferior lifeforms. There's also androids called 'proxies'. One of the proxy goes haywire and kills someone, so emo-girl Lir Mayer, being a detective, and her android partner have to figure out what's screwing up their perfect little emo world.

There's also guns.

To make it even more emo there are no scenes during the day or in any place with anything resembling adequate lighting, everything's dark and shadowy and hard to figure out. Black seems to be the primary color here.

Also, Lir's hair is set up in a way that makes her look like she has cat ears.

And I'm trying to remember this Lynch fellow but I can't, it's been too long.
Where are we going, and why am I in this handbasket?

Looks good. Animation is very Witch Hunter Robinish.

I don't know if you should compare this to Witch Hunter Robin... I only saw a few episodes of that but it rather bored me and I heard the series sucked.

Edit: Company that makes it is called Manstorm, also Geneon already picked it up in the US.

Ah! lighting bolt striking near where I was standing 10 minutes ago! I hate storms :(

I've seen the live action version of this movie, it's called blade runner.

Good eye. Same character designer.

I was looking forward to this one since it's supposedly from the same group who did Samurai Champloo (Manglobe), but it's been kind of a letdown. It follows a trend that's all too common in anime these days, where the first episode has gorgeous animation and then it's all downhill from there.

I enjoyed WHR. It was slow which made it difficult for me to stay awake through it as it played at like 12:30am on Friday nights on YTV but it was good.

Just might chell this show out... hm....

I'm still waiting on the anime version of the  Sound of the Music. I'm sure it'll be the fan favorite, must see, ground breaking anime of the moment when it comes out as well.

If the guy who told me to watch FLCL wasn't my friend, I'd kick him square in the nuts and scream, "WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?!"

I can't make sense of that show and I'm inclined to think it's more because some guy wants to confuse people than becuase there's some deep meaning there I'm too stuid to understand.

The guy who told me to watch it was joe.

I figure since it was only six episodes long, it's a bit forgivable.  But then again I kinda liked the zany-ness.  The first time around anyway.

Ha ha, yeah.  I used to be online buds with this eva-fanatic.  Had the toys and everything.  I saw the first two episodes and declared it crap.  Back to now, I still wasn't too impressed with the beginning (but it was better than I remembered).  As it brought in Asuka, I got interested.  Then things went downhill faster than the speed of light.  I'm not even gonna bother with the ending.  Those last few episodes.... jeez, the plot was hard enough to follow but animate something already!!  Make someone MOVE!!

Asuka >>> Rei

Evangelion is solid. The ending is retarded but whatever. The Japanese have about a 25% success rate with their endings anyway.  I think I was just spoiled by Sailor Moon who always had solid season and movie endings.

So I'm  downloading an episode of this Ergo Proxy show and it says it's 1280x720... so... is this an HD show? 'cause that's 720p. Or did someone just upscale it?  What resolution did the one you got have? Hoping it's HD 'cause it'll look fucking sweet on my TV.

Remember the Trunks Shrine ran by Meri or something like that?

Her ex had a daughter.

He named her Rei.

Haha. Holy shit. I got Janine to name her bunny with a stripe along it's forehead "Kahless" but people who do stupid name shit with real human babies are fucking tools.  Rei may be a nice Japanese name, and I say that mostly because of Sailor Mars, but to white people Rei just sounds like "Ray" which is a fucking guy's name.

I was served by a girl named "Pretti" at Best Buy the other day. Her parents should be killed.

They could change the name of Eva to "Take five minutes of actual show and stretch it into a half hour with lots of bullshit about AT fields and Sinnji's daddy not loving him." and it would be much more truthful. Bitey the snail can move faster then a typical Eva script.

I've never heard that name. What ethnicity of Rae Dawn Chong? that sounds kind of Asian. I don't want to sound like a racist or anything but white people who give their kids Asian names are retarded.  So are 50% of the names black people give their kids which is unrelated but I just wanted to make fun of stupid black people's names.

She's the daughter of Tommy Chong from Cheech & Chong.   The only movie I remember her being in was Commando.

Yeah, she was the hot airline stewardess chick from Commando.  Ah-nold rips the seat out of her car and later kills that short, weasely guy that was all coming on to her.

To be fair though, I've heard "Rae" as mostly a middle name.  It's also my middle name, though in that instance I was clearly named after a male "Ray".
