I liked it, but then I also like movies like Battle of Britain & The Big Red One. I would have preferred a little less of Rosario Dawson, as they vastly overstated Roxane's importance in the scheme of things at that point in his life, and had more focus on the intriguing battles. I understand why such a big deal was made out of Gaugamela rather that Issus or Granicus, but Issus was the turning point in the Persian campaign. I would have at least given it some flashback time. Lots of eye candy - I want to see it again just for the sets & costumes.
I'll be interested to see how it does in the UK. Reaction here seems to vary between outrage at the inference that any man having an enhanced friendship with another man better damn well be on Queer Eye, not conquering the world, and wanting the Persians portrayed with horns & tails. As I overheard one knuckle-dragger say in the lobby, "If he hadn't been a fairy-boy and done his goddam job raht, we wouldn't had no Nahn-Leven cuz we wouldn't have no raghaids!"
Sigh.... <_<
