My damn computer won't stay connected to the Internet. Everytime I dial in and connect, it stays connected for like two seconds and then drops me like a used-up ho. It's not my ISP because I'm using it through Merla's shitty laptop right now and I haven't been dropped yet.

I'll also be doing a search for help so maybe I'll have it solved before this gets read, but if anyone knows where I can go in my comp to attempt to fix this, let me know.

Hijack this, run that and post what came up on their forums. They can help you, but you should invest in a new anti-malware suite. It's worth it.

You should never trust Earthlink. I paid off my balance and told them I wanted to cancel my account with them and they are still charging me every month even though I havn't used it since I told them I wanted to cancel it...and to top it off they are still trying to charge me for the balance I already paid for. Lesson...Don't trust Earthlink!

If it's spyware, I use a program called Spybot. I use to have a link to download it, but you'd have to stay connected long enough to download it....so I guess that won't be much help.

There, it's off my chest. I've been off Earthlink since about November, when I was dropped for having not paid my balance. Apparently the same cc that works fuckin' fine didly for buying crap off Amazon and vegetables at Walmart was declined for two consecutive months and w/o sending off a letter or giving me a phone call, my access was cut off. It pisses me off that they can send me crap in the mail, but not a notice or fucking bill. I told them to cancel my account and send me the bill and they pawned me off to some fucking collection agency. After being w/ them since before I even knew the hell a Rama or an All spark was. Fucking mother fuckers...

Anyway, yeah, that's why I'm concerned about them being there. Aren't these like registry keys or something...

And fucking Netzero.... this is why I don't want to dl fucking software to use a fucking ISP.

I tried and I tried to get away from Earthlink. I'll get with an ISP that I like and then Earthlink comes in and buys them. So I cancel and find another one...and they buy that one. That happened three times. Now I'm with Netzero now, It's not the best and I had to download shit to my computer....which I hate. I have a dialing program and a explorer, I don't need anything else. Anyways, I got Netzero because I was tired of paying 20 bucks for slow ass dial up...I figure if i have to settle for it I might as well only pay 10 bucks for it. And 2....I figured Netzero was big enought that Earthlink couldn't buy them out. And then like 2 months after canceling they send me a bill for 49 bucks. And they list where that 49 bucks came from and it's all shit I already paid for. And they keep sending that same bill for 49 bucks like once every 2 weeks. I just got another copy today....I'd call and chew them out, but I'd proably just get some guy in India trying to push me into paying the balance over the phone like last time. Bastards. Sad thing is If they sick a Collection Agency on me I'll proably just pay it, a lawyer would cost me that just to shake his hand.

I've used AdAware and Spybot S&D for years, but I hear Webroot's software is supposed to be the best right now. You have to pay for that, though.

HijackThis! is a low level program that is highly effective, but you must know what you're killing before you do it. If you shoot yourself in the foot with HJT, you wind up blowing both legs off. You really should use a forum where the members read stuff like that and tell you what needs killing...there's several of them around, but I don't remember where...just Google it.

Also, Matt (Charon) and SparkStalker are also very helpful in this regard, so you may want to post about this on BONR.

As for an ISP, try to use a local mom and pop if you can find one on a local number. You'll pay more, but it's a lot simpler and you can get local help when you're stuck.

You should get Winpatrol too. It's been one of the most useful programs I've had. What it does it stops anything from downloading to your computer without you knowing, then it asks you if you want to allow it to download. It's a life saver.

When I used to have Earthlink, I'd get kicked off every few minutes. It got so bad one night I signed on seven times, only to be kicked off immediately after each attempt.

I'm pissed. I read the SWI board faq and everything and apparently I *still* posted in the wrong fucking place, so they move my fucking thread to the third fucking page. "Malware". I've been on Netzero for a while. I'd be willing to switch to broadband but it seems like every broadband company expects you to sign a 1-year manditory contract. Fuck a contract. I'm too communist for a fucking contract.
