I suck as a historian?
I am Phi Alpha Theta, with certificates in European, Enlightenment, and Asian History. I've read many primary and secondary sources. While the main accusation of her being a lesbian was from a prostitute during the whole diamond necklace fiasco, the real backbone of her loving women has to be her habits, and the whispers about her spending ALOT of time with women, and this included them staying in her room. This includes memoirs from aristocrats. While yes, many disliked her since she was Austrian, they also would not call her just a lesbian to defame her.
Have you ever read the sources of the time? I don't know of what german or Dutch man you mean, but was it from a movie? Movies never equal historical fact. If you watch the Patriot and think that's how it happened, you're wrong. Just like if you saw a movie about Marie and think that's what probably happened, you're wrong.
