Not quite as well as I had hoped, but not as bad as I feared, either. When my mom homeschooled me, she didn't go through the right channels, so I had to get a GED rather than a high school diploma. The navy still accepts recruits with no diploma, but they only have a certain number of spots available, and there won't be any open until October. It's not as bad as it sounds, though - I'll need those two months to get conditioned for and to buy all the stuff I need to take with me to basic training. And even though boot camp will be two months near Lake Michigan in the winter, it's mostly indoors and I love the cold.
The crazy list of things females have to provide for themselves:
* 6 white bras (standard white cotton -- two should be athletic support)
* 6 panties (white cotton)
* sanitary items (as required)
* 2 white half-slips
* 2 pairs of pantyhose or stockings (skin tone)
* shampoo (in small plastic container)
* a copy of PAP smear if one was performed six months prior to ship date
* If currently using birth control pills, bring the pills and a copy of exam records specifying the type(s) of birth control pills both currently and previously prescribed.
I understand the need for me to bring the stuff, but some of it is pretty expensive. Anyone who's had to buy a comfortable, effective sports bra for anything over a B cup will understand. And somehow, I don't think they're gonna let me wrap an ace bandage over a regular bra as a cheaper alternative.
Edited to add - I got to stand on a scale today, and if ever I needed more encouragement, this is it: in the two weeks since I've posted this and the week and a half since I've started seriously working out, I've lost around eight pounds. It's really awesome, because I've had a lot of trouble getting under 185 for months, and now I'm under 180. Yay for being less fat!
