Nuri: I reported it immediately to the Manager. The lady was gone by the time we got out onto the floor. The person that was supposed to be keeping an eye on her was doing something else, god knows why. It's too bad the security guys were on their lunch breaks (and that they decide to take their breaks at the same time.. the lazy asses).
Of course, what could I had done. Besides admitting she was helping an accomplace shoplift, she had not stolen anything herself. She had not put anything in a pocket, or tried to conceil anything.
Should I have tried to stop her? The question is could I? I could tell her to stay there while I call the police and she would have flipped me off and ran. Had I tried to grab her and hold her down she would have struggled, and possibly escaped my grasp and ran still. Even IF I was to subdue her, what could I do, the instant I try to get up to call a manager/police officer, she takes off. If I try to fight her, and I swing first, other customers might attack me thinking I've gone mad, management will be upset because I'm fighting and scaring off customers, and I might be charged with assault and spend Jail time.
True, it's a pretty even match between me, being a skinny 6 foot nerd, and a shorter 40ish woman, but without help it would have been a bit crazy.
Don't get me wrong, I wanted to slap her silly, but doing so might have opened up a can of worms. But, if she does show her face again, I probably won't be so tender.
